Now that it was nightfall, it was time to start to celebrate a new Greenie's arrival. The parties were always wild, with the boys banging on random objects to make music, Gally starting up the fighting ring, boys dancing like idiots, and the big bonfire light up was always spectacular.

The new arrival had no idea what to think of it all. She was told plenty of short stories from Newt and Alby about the celebrations, but nothing could prepare her for this.
"So when does the fun begin?", the Greenie and Newt were walking towards the 'party area' from the homestead.
"It begins when we lig-", Newt started to explain but was interrupted by another boy.
"Hey, shuckhead! Get over so we can start this party!", the girl thinks the boy's name was Winston, she vaguely remembers Newt mentioning him as the leader of the animal killing job. She didn't like the thought of trialling for that job. She loved animals, she remembered that she adored them.
'I guess Alby was right', she thought happily,'I am regaining bits and pieces of myself'.

She hadn't noticed that Newt had left to light the fire and so hurried to catch up to him. The blonde boy went up to the boys and grabbed a stick that was coated in some sort of liquid. The girl followed him and stood just far enough that she could see what he was doing.
"Hey, Greenie!", Zart, leader of the gardeners (She vaguely remembers), yelled to her,"Come over so you can light it up, baby!".
After that last bit, her face went tomato red. Not in pure anger of his inappropriate actions, but out of absolute, utter embarrassment! She had a feeling that before she came here that she was shy and didn't really like being the centre of everybody's attention.

Newt noticed this and walked over to the Keeper of the Track-hoes clipped him on the back of the head.
"Shut up you bloody idiot! Remember what Alby said...?", Newt whispered the last part so the girl couldn't hear it.
"Ow!", Zart yelped, rubbing the back of his head. "Yeah, yeah, I remember shuckface. No need to get your knickers in a knot". Alby had made it very clear, after she and Newt went off on the tour, that no Glader was to be inappropriate or uncomfortably close to her unless she gives them permission. Zart obviously forgot that for a second and couldn't help but call out. Friendly flirting was allowed, but nothing more.

The girl saw the commotion and giggled lightly as she walked over, trying to get rid of the rising heat on her face. When she arrived, Winston handed her a stick with a flame already on it.
"You do the honours, greenbean", he said with an amused smile as he bowed while holding up the flaming stick like it was a fine sword. She giggled once again, loving the fact that this wasn't as serious as she thought it was going to be.

She nodded her head at the bowing boy and took hold of the torch. The Greenie hesitated for a while, just looking from the torch, to the pile of hay, to the boys and back again.
"Come on Greenie, we don't have all night!", after that shout of so called 'encouragement', she threw the torch into the pile of hay and watched it light up like a tree of fire. It was spectacular, as the boys said it would be.

There were a few hoots of happiness as she did so, finally declaring her a Glader.
"Let's go boys!"
Everyone went wild. Objects were being bashed like drums, random shouting was heard thinking they were singing, and Gally had started up his usual fight ring. The girl stood in wonder of it all. Never, in her remembered life, had she ever felt so at home. With these crazy boys and their crazy traditions, it all felt natural, even after being there for no more than half a day.

"So... What do you think?", a voice she has now grown accustomed to asked from beside her. She hadn't even noticed the blonde boy walk up beside her.
"I think it's brilliant...", she sighed in amazement, still not letting her eyes wander from the amazing scene in front of her. Newt chuckled at how enthralled this girl was with this (To him) regular occasion. As he looked at her, he believed that he knew this girl. He had felt the connection that passed through them when he lifted her out of the box, knew there was something there. He believed that maybe before he was sent to the hell hole, that they maybe could have been friends, maybe something more...
'Well, I'll never know thanks to the shuckin' creators', Newt thought sourly to himself.
