I jolt awake and when I do, I see my 2 best friends from childhood, Marlene and Christina, looking at me with faces that are etched with concern.
"Oh goodness! Your awake!" Chris exclaims.
"What a relief!" Mar adds.
"Hey guys." I say, my head, still fuzzy.
Wondering what happened? Well, today, in morning assembly, my mom, I mean the principal of the school, announced that the school was going to close down because it wasn't getting enough students to fullfill the quota. Students are made to transfer from this school by their parents to other schools because they are getting bored.
But I love this school, I was so shocked and heartbroken when I announcement that I fainted right there. And here I am, lying in our infirmary bed.
"I can't believe this school is closing! It can't close down! I have loved this school from the very beginning!" I yell, tears brimming my eyes.
"We can do everything in our power to save it." Mar says, touching my shoulder. Did I mention that I have an office?
That's because I am the Student Council President of this high school, Chicago High.
Marlene is the vice-president, Chris is the advisor.
All of us are the 3 main people of the Student Council but not the only members. We have 20 more people under us. They are referred to as the Student Councillors. They work under our orders.
They are the ones who go around the school often to keep watch of mischievous people and report them to us.
For the past few months, I have been receiving complains of a some popular gang in our school repeatedly. They're the kind of bad and popular kids that don't like to obey rules.
I don't really know them and I doubt they know me either. I am not that popular and nor do I wish to be.
I am only well-known within the Student Council and I would like to keep it that way.
"Tris, do you wanna go home?" Chris asks.
"No, take me back to class. What do I have now?" I ask.
"AP Economy." Mar says. Ya. I have all AP classes. Even thought I am a junior at school. I make sure my grades are up to standard all the time. So my form teacher suggested I take all AP classes. And I took it. My conduct grades are also up to standard. Hence, my position in the Council. Just because my mom is the principal doesn't mean that she is favouring me into all of this.
I worked towards all of this. I don't like taking advantage of the fact that my mom's the principal.
"Come on, Tris. I got your stuff. Let's go." Mar says.
I stand as Chris supports me.
The 3 of us have been inseparable ever since we were young. Its actually coincidence that we're in the Student Council together.
Well, I gotta get to class now.
