Karlie walked onto the bus, slinging her bag onto her shoulder. The school bus was filled with kids doing all manner of things, and she sighed at some of the obnoxious "popular" people. She sat down towards the back and gazed out the window, waiting for the bus to take her home. It was autumn and the floor was littered with crisp leaves in vibrant colours of brown, crimson and orange. It was the perfect autumn day and it made her smile.
Gradually the bus filled until the only open seat was the one next to her. Then someone walked onto the bus.
The girl was tall, not quite as tall as Karlie but still tall. She had soft blue eyes and blonde hair - and Karlie was struck dumb by her. She was beautiful, and the taller girl couldn't help but stare a little. She watched as the blonde looked around to see the only seat left free. Karlie grew nervous as the pretty girl sat next to her; WHAT DO YOU SAY WHEN A PRETTY GIRL TALKS TO YOU!?
"Hi." Karlie managed, with a small wave.
Oh my god Kar she thought. Literally anything but that oh my god that was so weird and awkward-
"Hey" the blonde replied. She seemed shy, her shoulders were hunched and she didn't look up much or make eye contact.
"What's your name?" Karlie asked.
"Taylor, yours?"
Taylor is such a pretty name Karlie thought.
"Oh thank you" Taylor blushed.
Oh well done Karlie you rambling fool.
"I'm Karlie." She introduced.
"Nice to meet you."
The two started to tentatively converse, exchanging ages and birthdays and family and school. The girls were almost crying laughing when Taylor realised.
"Shit!" She exclaimed.
"What happened?" Karlie asked.
"I missed my drop off point, now I'm gonna have to walk way further to get home."
"Awh no!" Karlie giggled.
"Don't laugh at me!"
"I'm not laughing at you." She said, still giggling. Taylor just rolled her eyes and smiled.
When the next drop off point came along Taylor got up to leave the bus. She turned round to say goodbye to Karlie, only to almost bump into the taller girl standing right behind her.
"You didn't get off at the right place. I gotta make sure you get home safe." Karlie reasoned. Taylor just blinked, blushing and smiling happily that she gets to spend some more time with this girl.
"Okay." She said simply.
The walk to Taylor's house wasn't overly long, and the girls' conversation was easy and sweet. Taylor was telling Karlie about some hilarious things her cat Meredith had done recently when they reached Taylor's house.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow then, maybe?" Taylor had been the shy one before, but now it was Karlie's turn.
"Yes, definitely. Here, put your number in." Taylor handed her her phone and Karlie swapped her's in turn.
"Okay well, I'll text you tonight. Bye Karlie." Taylor smiled.
"Bye Taylor." Feeling brave, Karlie lent in quickly and kissed her cheek. She was afraid she was being too forward, but she was thankful to see that Taylor was blushing like a tomato and didn't pull away. "I'll see you tomorrow."
With that, the girl turned away to walk home, smiling at the thought of her new friend.
----------
The next day, when Karlie sits down in a seat on the bus, she looks around eagerly, trying to find a certain blonde. A huge grin lights up her face when she spots Taylor through the window and she waves enthusiastically. Taylor smiles and waves back.
When Taylor gets onto the bus she makes her way straight over to Karlie.
"Hey! You alright?"
"Yeah I'm good thanks, you?" Taylor replied.
"I'm alright, yeah." Karlie smiled. They talked like best friends, exchanging comments about their day, the teachers and their fellow students. When the two got to Taylor's stop, Karlie got up with the blonde girl.
"Where are you going?" Taylor asked, confused.
"I'm walking you home, of course." Karlie said, smirking. "I need to meet your cats, duh."
"Oh, okay." Taylor certainly wasn't complaining.
As the bus left the two girls alone on the pavement, Karlie took a deep breath and slipped her hand inside Taylor's. She let out a small breath in relief when the shorter girl didn't pull her hand away.
"Mum, I'm home!" Taylor called when the girls entered the Swift household.
"Hi honey! Is this the friend you told me about?" Andrea Swift said as she came into the hallway.
"Yeah, this is Karlie" Taylor blushed, slightly embarrassed that Karlie now knew that Taylor talked about her to her mother.
"Hello, Miss Swift. It's lovely to meet you." Karlie smiled politely, trying to not be alarmed that she was meeting her new friends mother.
"It's lovely to meet you too Karlie! And call me Andrea honey." She smiled and hugged Karlie, leaving the tall girl pleasantly surprised at Andrea's loveliness. Karlie smiled and laughed.
"We're going to my room." Taylor announced before grabbing Karlie's hand again and dragging Karlie up the stairs.
After hours spent in Taylor's room playing with her two cats Meredith and Olivia, Karlie announced that she had to go. Taylor frowned, sad that her new friend had to leave so early.
"But you've only been here a few hours!" Taylor complained. Karlie giggled.
"Tay, it's nine P.M., it's hardly early, if I don't get home soon my mum'll be so pissed." She reasoned. Taylor losing track of their time together and wanting her to stay longer was honestly endearing. Karlie couldn't deny, she was sad she had to leave too.
"Okay, fine." Taylor huffed, frowning and crossing her arms like a child, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Taylor showed Karlie out the door, and before the taller girl could try and go in for it, Taylor leant in to give Karlie a quick peck on the cheek. She smiled as Karlie's cheeks flamed up red in a blush.
"See you t-tomorrow, Tay," Karlie stuttered as butterflies flipped in her stomach.
"Goodbye, Karls." Taylor smiled calmly and the girls hugged tight. Karlie left, and Taylor stayed at the door until Karlie was completely out of sight. She smiled when she noticed Karlie look back at Taylor.
--------
The following day, when the two giraffes found each other on the bus home, Karlie didn't hesitate to slip her fingers in between Taylor's as their hands rested on the seat. Taylor smiled and softly squeezed, relishing how easily their hands moulded together and how much she liked their hands combined.
When Taylor went to get off at her stop, she wasn't surprised to find Karlie following her off the bus.
"Okay Karls I'm pretty sure you don't need to walk me home everyday." Taylor jested with a smirk.
"Hah, don't flatter yourself kid, I'm just in it for the cats." Karlie replied with a wink. Taylor just rolled her eyes.
After a moments pause when Taylor didn't say anything Karlie began to worry. Did Taylor take her joking as a sign that she didn't like the girl? Was Taylor hurt?
"Hey, Tay baby, I was joking, I love spending time with you and I do actually love walking you home."
"Baby?" Taylor enquired.
"What?"
"You called me baby." The shorter girl smirked and her stomach fluttered at Karlie's concern.
"Oh..." Karlie blushed. She hadn't realised that the 'baby' had slipped out. It just seemed so natural.
"I'm serious though. You're fantastic." Karlie murmured as they reached Taylor's door. Taylor hugged the girl slightly and replied,
"Not as fantastic as you baby."
Karlie blushed.
"Goodbye Tay. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Definitely." Karlie kissed Taylor's cheek as Taylor replied. Karlie turned to leave and as she got a few steps away she heard Taylor shout;
"Karlie, wait!"
Karlie turned around to see Taylor running up to her. Taylor quickly leant up and pecked Karlie on the lips. It caught Karlie completely off guard and her stomach went into overdrive with the butterflies.
"I can't wait to see you tomorrow." Taylor said, still only a few inches away from Karlie's lips.
"I c-can't either." Karlie stuttered.
"See you tomorrow, baby." Taylor flirted.
"See you tomorrow, beautiful." Taylor blushed and the two went their separate ways.
That night, Taylor went to sleep with a grin she couldn't wipe off her face and Karlie was still tracing her own lips, reimagining their kiss millions of times.
Shit, I'm in deep with this girl. Karlie thought to herself.
But she wasn't scared.

A/N
Happy holidays everyone! I hope you've had a good whatever-you-celebrate-if-you-celebrate-something. I think this is my longest one shot so far (go me). I hope you like it.
P.S. Also I'm now dead because of ootw. And Karlie's end of year review video was so cute! But seriously. Still dead. *watches the video on repeat religiously*.
