"See you later girls!" Karlie waved enthusiastically at her group of friends, pouting and then flashing her signature smile. It was the end of the school day, and they were all going to chill round Cara's...except Karlie had to go home. Her parents were disappointed in her grades, and she had to study more they said. The only lessons she seemed to excel in were computer science and dance, and her parents had threatened her that if she didn't start to pay more attention to her education, she'd be grounded.
Kaylor sighed and walked into the school toilets. She quickly re-applied her lipstick which had faded slightly, before really looking at herself in the mirror. She was hot. Everyone said so. The whole school knew that with her looks, she could be a model. Her blonde hair framed her face perfectly, and her cheekbones could cut a man.
Except she didn't feel it. She knew that objectively, she must be fairly attractive, otherwise she wouldn't get that many requests of dates from random (often sleazy) guys. But she never felt pretty or hot or sexy or anything that people told her she was. Karlie felt like...nothing special. Nothing special at all.
The blonde was awoken from her insecure self evaluation of her looks by the sound of a cubicle door opening. A tall blonde crept out and went to wash her hands. She kept her head down, but Karlie could see the redness around her eyes. Karlie knew who this girl was.
Taylor Swift.
She was the smartest kid in school. Her grades were higher than anyone else's. The only class she wasn't at the top in was computer science, because Karlie was top in that class, but she often managed to tie first place with Karlie in assignments. But this wasn't why Karlie spent a solid five minutes admiring Taylor in every class that they shared. Taylor was, in Karlie's opinion, the prettiest girl in school. Her blue eyes were captivating, and her smile god, her smile was stunning. She could be a Disney princess.
"Hey." The greeting was out of Karlie mouth before she could stop herself. They'd never spoken before, barely ever held eye contact even.
"Hi." Taylor replied croakily. Karlie fiddled with her make up bag, and Taylor held her hands under the tap. The silence was deafening.
"I'm Karlie. You're Taylor right?"
"Yeah uh, that's me." Taylor's voice was quiet, and the blonde couldn't tell if that was because she was shy or because she'd been crying in the toilets. Or both.
"It's nice to meet you." Karlie cringed at herself.
"You too." Taylor shook the water off her hands and made to leave. Karlie panicked. She wanted to be friends with this girl. So she went with the only thing she could think of.
"You do tutoring right?"
Taylor seemed to...smirk slightly? Karlie smiled tentatively.
"Yeah, I do."
"Would you be willing to uh, y'know...tutor me sometime? I'm failing in someone of my classes..." Karlie trailed off awkwardly.
"Yeah sure." Taylor nodded. "Here's my number, just uh, text me when you're free and stuff." Taylor grabbed a note book out of her bag, ripped some paper out and wrote her number down, before holding it out for Karlie to take.
"Sounds good, thanks Taylor." The taller blonde took the slip of paper, and Karlie was taken aback by how soft Taylor's hands were when they brushed.
With a quiet "see you around" Taylor left. Karlie stayed in the bathroom for a bit longer, staring at herself, confused as to why her heartbeat was suddenly a lot faster than usual.

Karlie was pacing her room. Taylor was due over any minute to tutor her in...English maybe? History? Karlie couldn't remember for the life of her. She just knew she was nervous. She didn't know why or what for. So she was pacing.
The doorbell rang, and Karlie practically sprinted downstairs to open the door before her mother could.
"Hey Taylor." She smiled.
"Hi Karlie." Taylor waved slightly.
"Come on in." Karlie led Taylor to her room, the duo in complete silence.
"Where're your parents?" The shorter girl asked.
"Oh uh, my dads out I think. My mum won't disturb us." Karlie replied. They settled on Karlie's bed, and Taylor got some books out.
"English right?" Taylor murmured. Karlie simply nodded, she honestly had no clue.
They started to study, Taylor mainly taking the lead and showing Karlie what to do. They both started to loosen up as the evening progressed, until they were both cracking jokes and laughing at each other's ridiculous responses. After a while Karlie wondered why her cheeks hurt before she realised it was from her constant smiling at Taylor. God, Taylor's laugh was like magic to Karlie. Eventually, Taylor said the dreaded words.
"Oh damn, I should probably go, it's getting late."
Karlie pouted and then laughed. This announcement made her sadder than she thought it would.
"Oh how much do you charge by the way? For the tutoring?" Karlie started rummaging for her purse.
"It's fine Karlie, I enjoyed tonight so, you pay nothing." Taylor's demeanour was light and happy. "Same time next week?"
"Yes! I'm looking forward to it."
