The next morning, I was doing a test. I stayed outside of the kitchen while Michael walked in. I wanted to see if my parents said anything about me being gone. If they did, I was going to walk in.
I heard my parents say good morning to Michael, but nothing about me was said, and I was confused. If they hadn't seen their daughter for almost two days, wouldn't they be worried? There was a long pause between them saying good morning to Michael and what they said next.
"Do you know where Pandora has got to? I haven't seen her.." Mom asked Michael.
I walked into the kitchen and announced, "I'm right here. What did you want me for?"
"I just wanted to know where you were because I was getting worried. Where have you been for the past few days?" She asked.
"I was at Danny's. I didn't tell you that? He needed help with something, and I just decided to stay the night."
"Nothing happened, right?"
"Mom!" I exclaimed, grabbing Michael's arm. Michael looked down at me, acting as if he was waiting for an answer. He knew I didn't go to Danny's.
"No, nothing happened, my god!" I exclaimed, grabbing an apple and walking out with Michael.
"Do you think they bought it?" I asked Michael, whispering.
"I think so," Michael nodded as we walked upstairs.
I grabbed Preston from his crib since he was crying when we got upstairs. I took him into my room and I fed him while talking to Michael.
"I can't believe my mom would ask such a stupid question, especially when you're right there. Oh my god," I rolled my eyes.
"I know. And she knows you well. She knows nothing would happen between you two, especially since you're with me."
"Yeah. And even if I wasn't with you, nothing would happen between us because we're such good friends. I have known him since he was a newborn. I was really little myself, but I was there when he was born, back when we both lived in Boston."
"Wow," Michael looked at me, and I nodded.
"Maybe once you're done with Preston, we can put him down for a short nap and we can.. you know," Michael raised his eyebrows, "I don't want to say it in front of Preston."
"That's okay," I assured him, "but sure.."
Michael bit his lip, then took Preston out of my hands right after I was done with him to take him into the nursery. He placed him in his crib and walked back to my room behind me.
We didn't bother locking the door. We would just make ourselves invisible and unable to be heard. That way, if one of my parents walked in, they wouldn't know what was going on or every if we were in here or not.
"I love you," Michael kissed me on my jawline. I whispered back to him many times, "I love you too.."
------
Later, mom had called Michael and me downstairs into the living room. When they had called up to my room, I could tell something was up. I knew it by just the tone of their voice.
"What did you guys want us for?" I asked, sitting down on the couch, soon to be joined by Michael.
"We wanted to talk to you guys about something," dad said the most obvious thing he could have said.
"Yeah, but what do you want to talk about?" Michael looked at my dad, then at my mom. My dad crossed his arms. Oh no..
"Well, we've sort of noticed that you, um, you've been acting a little weird lately, I don't know," dad stumbled over his words, "and we were worried."
"Is that all? You're worried about me?" I asked.
They both shook their heads, "yes, we're worried about you, but that's not the whole reason why we wanted to talk to you."
"Well.. What was the other reason, then?" I looked at both of my parents, waiting for an answer. It took a lot longer than I thought it would to get an answer.
"The thing is.. We have been noticing you acting strangely, and we were thinking and discussing things too," mom looked at me, then dad, and back at me, "are you pregnant.. again?"
"No!" I exclaimed, "I'm not pregnant again! Why would you think that?" I looked at them as if they were crazy people.
"I don't know, to be honest," dad shrugged, "we've just seen your strange behavior lately, and it's different than it was just a few days ago. We're sorry if we upset you by jumping to conclusions," he apologized.
I promised dad and mom, "you don't have to worry about me. I'm perfectly fine. I'm alright, I assure you. I love you guys." I gave them both a hug before walking back upstairs in front of Michael and into the nursery for Preston.
