I blink my eyes, taking in the fluorescent lights above my head.
"Alexandria?" A voice calls out, and I sit up abruptly. I appear to be in a hospital room, but we're not alone; I somehow know there is another patient on the other side of the curtain next to me.
And there, standing in front of me with creased eyebrows and a worried expression, is my mom.
"M-mom?" I ask, and my throat hurts; my voice sounds foreign, as if I haven't spoken in ages.
She rushes to my side and embraces me, and I appreciate the moment. I haven't seen her in so long.
"God, these three months were so long," My mother whispers, and I pull away.
"Three months? What? Mom, I thought you were dead! Where's Tom? And Jack? Where's Jack!" I exclaim frantically.
Tears fill my mother's eyes.
"Andria," She sighs. "Who are those people?"
I don't know how to respond.
"Andria, can you tell me how old you are?" She asks.
"Twenty-five," I reply easily.
"Andria, you're seventeen," She says slowly, and grabs my hand. "You seem to be...remembering things that didn't happen. You've been in a coma for three months."
"Three...no, mom. That's not possible. I remember living 8 years...And Jack..." I trail off, and my mom stands up.
I lean back and catch a glimpse of who's behind the curtain on the other side of the hospital room.
Jack.
"Mom! There he is! Jack!" I exclaim.
My mother stands and pulls back the curtain, revealing my beautiful husband, the man I love.
"Andria, you don't know him. He's in a coma...just like you were."
Tears fall from my eyes as her words sink in.
"I'm going to get the doctor," My mother whispers and exits the room.
I slowly stand and make my way over to Jack's bed. It's him; it's really truly him. Same perfect brown hair, same pink plump lips.
Tears continue to fall as I sit down and grab his hand.
How can this be possible? How can I have lived a life that didn't exist? I've fallen in love with a figment of my imagination.
Suddenly, Jack's fingers latch around mine, and his eyes flutter open. His brown orbs stare into mine for a brief moment.
"A-Alexandria?"
THE END :)
