I sighed and absentmindedly tapped my pencil on my chin. It was the last day of school, and our final exams were all over. Now I was sitting in last period study hall looking out the window and thinking about one person in particular.
Jack.
We had been texting ever since we met at the mall, and we had plans to go to hang out at his place tonight.
Well my mom was coming too.
But that's not the point. She and Katherine are best friends, they're obviously going to want to get together or whatever. The point is that Jack seemed excited about tonight too.
Before I had any chance to think about Jack, the bell rang. Cheers erupted throughout the hallways and classrooms. It was finally summer. I smiled and gathered my stuff, exiting into the hallway.
"Hey Dria!" My best friend, Emily, called and ran up to me, her blonde hair flying aimlessly behind her.
"Yes, em?" I laughed.
"You're coming over later, right? To plan for camp?" She smiled.
"Shit, Em. I totally forgot! I have plans," I responded.
"Plans? Dria you haven't had a date in months, plus everybody will be at my place tonight." Emily rolled her eyes.
Ever since we were in fifth grade, Emily and I, and a group of our really close friends had been going to summer camp in Vermont together. It sounds gay but it's actually a lot of fun.
"Earth to Andriaaaaaaa. You have to come! Matt, Cam, Nash, and Hayes will all be there, plus Hannah and Becca. Just like old times..."
"Okay Em. I'll just be a little late," I replied.
"What's been with you lately?" She asked, and winked. "Is it a boy?"
I bit my lip and looked at her. I didn't want to tell Emily I met Jack. She would blow things out of proportion. Don't get me wrong; she's my best friend and I love her, she's just a huge a drama queen.
"He's my moms friends son, but Em, he's gorgeous and sweet and funny," I said.
"Dria! This is so awesome! I mean ever since Cameron..." Emily trailed off.
I gave her a look and grabbed my books from my locker.
"Stop em. We're not talking about Cam right now." I whispered and continued walking down the hall. I just wanted to get to my car and leave.
"I'm sorry!" Emily exclaimed. "It's just that you two never talk about what happened."
"Emily he's a douche. But we're over it now. I don't want to ruin our friendship over this again. Now do you need a ride or not?" I asked. At this point, we were outside of school and at my car. Emily rolled her eyes and opened the passenger side door. I sighed and climbed into my car, immediately starting it. The car ride was awkward and silent. It wasn't Emily's fault. It's Cameron's fucking fault. I can't be expected to already be over what he did. I mean honestly who-
"Andria? I'm sorry. I know things are still rough with Cam. It's just hard for the rest of us, ya know? And with your dad...I don't know. You two used to be so close," Emily spoke up.
"I know em. Don't worry. It's fine, really."
But it wasn't fine. With Cam, or my dad, it will never be fine
