The cold rain pelted your skin like a thousand needles. Time became agonizingly slow, and the blood drained from your face in fear.
'I-Is it really you...sister?' you asked in your head. Her face and body had become so distorted from the effects of evil and madness locked onto her body. Kid looked at you with an expression of plain shock etched on his face.
Duff let out a deep chuckle and spun the knife around in her hand, studying the blade with eyes full of bloodlust. "You know, I thought you would have died after you ran away... It's a shame you didn't."
Kid signaled for Liz and Patty to transform, and he got into his fighting stance: the Stance of Sin, ready to attack. Duff, with eyes that seemed bored, flicked her head up in his direction.
"Who's this?" she questioned, her eyebrows pulling together as she looked Kid over.
You looked over at Kid with soft, yet half-scared features. He nodded once as if to say it's alright.
The buff girl who stood in front of you glanced back and forth between you and Kid, eyes squinted in thought. "Oh, I get it," she toyed. "This is your little Shinigami boyfriend! The famous Reaper's son and his twin pistols." She whipped her head back towards you and wrinkled her nose in disgust. "How'd you get him to fall for scum like you?! He probably just likes you out of pity." She faked a sad pout sarcastically and clicked her tongue.
Kid's face was taken over by pure rage. "Why, you-!" He began charging at her, Liz and Patty ready to shoot.
Duff cocked her head to the side and dropped the bag of stolen souls. She lifted her hand up in his direction, and he stopped in his tracks, frozen. Frantic, Kid tried to move, but the magic held him.
"Don't attack me yet, we have a lot of catching up to do, don't we?" The knife in her grasp began glowing, then shifted into a short, slim figure. "Let's have Caitlyn explain. She's been dying to see her favorite older sister," Duff spat, venom dripping in her words.
"Caitlyn," you whispered, looking at the once innocent girl. You gaped at her with sad, tear-filled eyes, shocked that she would ever choose the path of evil.
The young girl had a blank, distant expression on her face, but didn't speak a word.
"Well?" Duff proded the emotionless child. Caitlyn still refused to talk, her face never changing. "FINE! Be that way, you little brat!" Duff brought her hand around and slapped the girl on the cheek with full force, earning a small wimper. Caitlyn slid to the ground, her head hanging in defeat. She looked up at you, a sad air about her, but her eyes were cold and dead. This wasn't the girl you knew.
"I'll explain it to you, then," Duff began in a deep, irritated voice. She glared at your younger sister, then shot her eyes back up at you. "After our little quarrel, mom and dad were devastated that their 'favorite little daughter' had run away." She scoffed and shook her head. "They actually created two more - twins this time - to replace you. Two boys, as a matter of fact..." she trailed off, her thoughts leading her somewhere else.
Kid - no longer frozen and standing beside you - seemed desperately confused as he looked between you and Duff, hoping for an answer.
Your older sister noticed his confusion and rose an eyebrow. "Oh? I guess you didn't tell 'loverboy' here everything about your past, did you?" She smiled wickedly - a sickening sight. "Oh that's just wonderful! Perhaps once he knows the truth, he won't love you anymore, will he?"
You clentched your fists and looked down at the cold, cobbled stones under your feet. You shut your eyes on the tears that threatened to overflow, hoping she didn't see.
Kid's hand grazed yours lightly, and he glanced at you from the corner of his eye.
"So where do we begin?" Duff taunted. She looked over at Kid, thoughts brewing in her head. "I assume you know our oldest sister, Blair, since she was the one to send the letters from Death City to our parents about Alexus being safe... she always sends us friggen letters about whats going on," Duff explained as she rolled her eyes. "I even heard about the incident with what's-his-face...? Doctor Franken Stein, was it? Haha! That must've been torture for you!" she exclaimed, laughing in your face. You glared back at her, fire running through your veins.
"Oh, sorry, I'm getting off track, aren't I? So, you wanna know the truth, Kid? Why don't you ask her!" she jammed a finger in your face. "I want to see her tell you. I want to see the pain on her face when she runs you away out of disgust! Hahahaha!" She chortled a throaty laugh, expectant. She watched you as if she were waiting for the show of a lifetime.
You gulped and slowly faced Kid to tell him the truth... the truth that made you different, the truth that you hid from everyone.
