That night, after Kid left, Blair eagerly dragged you to her room, excited to catch up.
"Oh, Lexi! I've missed you so much!" she said. She sat on her bed, her legs criss-crossed, all but exploding with excitement.
"I missed you, too sis," you said while slipping on some pajamas you borrowed from her. You plopped down next to her on the bed, a thousand questions spinning through your head that you wanted to ask her.
About two hours of exchanging questions and stories, she fell asleep; you giggled at her sleeping face, then followed only minutes after.
*~*~*~*
At dawn, you had breakfast with Soul, Blair and Maka. The bookworm Meister overviewed your school schedule with you. Again.
"...so you and I have all the same classes....Soul and Kid and some of the others also have the same schedule..." she droned on about it for a while as you tried to listen and look interested.
Finally, Soul interrupted her to point out that it was time to go.
She reluctantly pulled from her conversation. "Is it time already!?" she exclaimed. She grabbed your hand and dragged you out the door. "You can't be late on your first day!"
Soul trailed behind, annoyed and uninterested. He muttered under his breath about something being "so uncool" as Maka pulled you through the streets.
Once at Shibusen, you saw Kid standing amongst a small group of students. He noticed you, Soul and Maka, and walked over to greet you.
"Good morning," he said, an undertone of happiness and excitement in his voice, but his calm and collected facade remained intact.
"Mornin', Kiddo-kun," you cheerfully returned. "You're in a good mood today."
He only blushed a little, but tried to hide it. He introduced you to his two weapons, Liz and Patty, and two other classmates, Black*Star and Tsubaki. Black*Star oddly reminded you of your sister Duff; and his weapon Tsubaki reminded you of Caitlyn, the youngest sister in your family.
'I guess this is going to be a lot like home,' you announced mentally. But, at the moment, you couldn't quite tell if that would turn out to be a good thing or just the opposite.
Everyone seemed to get along well, and you felt so welcomed. You found yourself enjoying yourself and laughing in this new environment.
"So, Alexus," Black*Star started in a louder-than-necessary voice. "Have you decided who's team you're going to be on?"
Everyone looked at you with eager expressions, awaiting your choice.
"I-I don't know... Everyone seems to do pretty well on their own already..."
'Maybe I could just work on my own...' you thought subconciously.
"Don't dodge the question," Soul accused. "I mean, you should at least have an idea. You can always change your mind later."
Maka nodded, looking at you as if she were searching for something. She then added, "Your soul does seem very flexible, so you can practically work with anyone..."
You scratched your head, unsure. "Uhh... I don't know..." Actually, Soul was right. You actually did have an idea. Since you met Kid first, you felt more... yourself... around him.
Kid squinted his eyes at you; he knew you were hiding something. Man, he was good.
You sighed and quickly thought of a way to put it without sounding like you were choosing "favorites". "Well..." you began, " I think that, since Kid is the most advanced out of this group, I would learn the most from him." You tensed up a little for their reaction.
Everyone seemed to agree as they nodded their heads, Patty jumped up and squealed with excitement. Black*Star was the only one who seemed slightly offended.
You let out a small sigh of relief, glad that was settled. The school bells rang; classes were done for the day. You exited the classroom at a leisurely pace, soaking in the drifting voices of the students coming from the halls.
Amidst the chatter, you heard Patty's shrill, giddy laugh ring in your ears. You spun around just in time to see the hyperactive blond pushing her way through the crowd towards you; she pounced and hugged you around your neck.
You laughed. "Uh, hey Patty, what's up?"
She just kept giggling, then she finally opened her mouth to say something.
"Patty!" Liz called from behind her, trying to catch up. You saw Kid following a few feet behind Liz at his own pace, his hands in his pockets.
"What is it, sis?" Patty innocently trilled, batting her eyes. She smiled.
Liz walked up and saw that Patty was talking to you, then she turned back to her sister. "You shouldn't leave us behind like that," she lectured. Patty just laughed in response.
Kid finally caught up, joining the little gathering.
"So what were you going to say, Patty?" you asked her, curious at what she was so excited about.
Patty shot a glance at Liz and grinned a little, and Liz responding to her smile with a warning glare. You looked at the both of them them, confused.
Patty turned to you and answered, "Since you're a part of our team now, you should come train with us!" She excitedly invited you.
"Sounds great!" You shot her a smile. "Where?"
Liz answered you this time. "We normally just do some target practice in an open field," she waved her hand around dismissively. "It probably won't be very exciting, so you don't have to come..."
"I don't have anything better to do," you joked. "I'd love to join you."
"Then I'll pick you up from Maka's in precisely one hour," Kid offered, grinning at you.
You nodded and returned the smile, your cheeks turning a light rose, then you turned to walk home. You heard a knock on the door and checked your watch. "5:00." You smiled.
You ran to answer the door, and just on the other side stood Kid.
"Hullo," he greeted.
You flashed your teeth at him, sniggering. "You're a minute late," you jokingly teased him, thinking he would laugh along. You were dead wrong.
"What?! That's not right! I can't be a minute late! I left my house at precisely the right moment!" He freaked out, flailing his arms around.
"Kid! Kid! Woah! Calm down! I was just kidding." You grasped his lithe shoulders, trying to calm him down. "Your timing was perfect," you assured him. You landed a small kiss on his cheek, then grinned at him shyly, blushing.
He silenced immediately and his eyes grew wide; his whole face turned red. "U-uhh..." he muttered. He looked at his shoes, his bangs covering up his sparkling yellow eyes. "W-we should g-get going, we're going to be late."
You nodded and followed Kid through the streets of Death City, walking side-by-side.
He didn't say anything, nor did he even look at you. 'Did I embarass him that much?' You wondered, regret and angst beginning to pound in your head. You tried to think of something to say to him, when suddenly a question you never considered before popped up in your mind that you felt absolutely compelled to ask...~To be continued~
