Chapter 1

Kazumis P.O.V

“Are you sure about this, Kazumi?” Yamamoto asked. I was currently in the old mans office, I have decided that I wanted to come back to the soul society.

“Yeah I’m sure gramps,” I said. Yamamoto looked at me and smiled.

“Welcome back my dear,” He got up and walked towards me, pulling me into a hug. “It’s good to have you back and I’m glad you have decided to come back. It’s been so long,” he said.

“Yeah it sure has old man,” I laughed.

“Well now that you are back, how about filling in a position for me?” Yamamoto asked as he walked back to his desk.

“Oh, and what would that be?” I asked staring at him curiously.

“I want you to be Joshiros lieutenant, ever since Kaien died Joshiro has been having problems keeping up with everything. Even though he has had help and currently has an acting lieutenant he needs someone permanent”

“He’s still sick isn’t he?”

“Yes but don’t worry Retsu is taking good care of him. So what do you say?” Yamamoto asked. I just stood there and thought about it for awhile.

‘Lieutenant huh? This should be interesting’ I thought. “I guess I can do that, after all Joshiro is like a father to me” I laughed.

“Good I will tell him right away,” Yamamoto said, I bowed in respect and walked out. I was going to go visit my best friend, or so he thinks.

‘Kaname I still don’t understand why you did that all those years ago, but one day I will find out.’ I thought as I walked towards Squad 9s barracks. “Not much has changed,” I said as I looked around. I stopped once in front of squad 9s barracks and stood there, ‘it’s a lot different without you here, brother’ I thought. Sure I knew that he was alive and well but I still miss him. I regained my composure and walked into the barracks, I already knew the way to the captains’ office so I just walked there. I knocked on the door once I reached his office,

“Come in” Kaname called, I put on my best smile and made sure that Kaname couldn’t sense my uneasiness. I opened the door and walked in, “Can I help you?” Kaname asked, I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Sure you can Kaname” I said, I noticed Kaname stiffen, he dropped his pen and turned his head towards me.

“Kazumi” Kaname said in disbelief.

“Awh don’t tell me you forgot about me already, Kaname” I laughed, Kaname stood up and walked over to me.

“It’s really you, isn’t it?” Kaname asked, I laughed some more. Kaname pulled me into a hug, “I can’t believe your back” He said happily.

“Yeah I decided that it was time,” I said as I hugged him back. I felt Kaname laugh into the hug.

“Please have a seat,” Kaname said. He walked over to some cabinets while I took a seat on the couch. Kaname walked back over with a bottle of sake and some snacks

“A little early for Sake don’t you think?”

“Now now Kazumi is it really,” Kaname laughed. He was right it wasn’t so early, I wasn’t an alcoholic or anything but I did drink. Kaname was my drinking buddy as well, we always went for a drink after he got off work. He poured some sake into two cups and set on of them in front of me. “So tell me, what squad are you on?” I took a sip of sake before answering.

“Well I wanted to be on squad 9 but Joshiro is having some problems so I’m going to be his lieutenant” I explained.

“Ah that’s what I thought,” Kaname laughed.
