Kazumi’s P.O.V

It was nice, being around old friends and new ones. It was nice actually seeing people and being out, having fun. Sure I missed Kensei and the rest of them, because honestly nothing really feels right without them here. They are really the only people that I can trust with my life. Sure most of them here are people that are my friends, but I haven’t seen them or talked to them in so long that I’m not sure if I could still trust them or not. That’s why I’ve been keeping everyone at a distance, until I know if I can trust them or not.

“Everything has changed since you last been here.” I placed my drink on the counter and looked over my shoulder. Byakuya was standing there, staring at me intensely. It was obvious that he was observing me, like he was trying to figure something out. I narrowed my eyes slightly at him. Everyone here was drunk, dancing, and having fun. But Byakuya, I’ve noticed, hasn’t had a single drink. I know that it’s not like him, for him to drink and have fun. He doesn’t like showing people his true side unless he really trusts them.

“Yeah, it all looks the same on the outside but on the inside of things everything is different. There’s new people, new rules, new everything. And not only that, but the people have changed as well” I said, looking back down at my drink. I gripped my hand lightly around the cup, lifted the drink to my mouth, and slowly drank. I’ve honestly lost count on how many drinks that I have had so far, but obviously I haven’t had too many if I’m only still feeling a slight buzz. Drinking with Shunsui really does build you a high alcohol tolerance, which is why I could out drink anyone if I wanted too. My body slightly tensed when I felt Byakuya’s shoulder lightly graze mine. My gaze tore away from my drink and over to Byakuya. Our eyes instantly locked considering the fact that he was looking at me already.

“You’re right everyone has changed, including you Kazumi. You’re a lot different from the last time that I remembered” Byakuya explained. My lips lifted upward slightly in a small smile.

“The last time we saw each other Byakuya was when you were still a kid” I told him, letting out a slight chuckle. Byakuya’s lips curved upward in a smile, letting out a slight chuckle as well. Not many people can say that they have seen Byakuya smile, because honestly he isn’t the type of person to allow people to know how and what he is feeling. He likes keeping himself a mystery.

“As much as that is true, I still remember you being a lot happier” Byakuya said, all hints of any smile that he had on earlier disappearing. My eyebrow arched up in a questionable manner.

“Why I’m not really sure as to what you are talking about, lil Byakuya” I paused briefly, letting out a slight laugh. “I’m actually quite happy” I finished. I turned my head so that he could get a full view of my face, giving him a big smile. Byakuya shook his head slightly back and forth.

“You can try and hide it all you want, Kazumi. But the people that know you know that you are putting on a mask.” My body stiffened. Am I really that easy to read? But how, I thought that I was doing a really good job at hiding things? I thought that I was doing a good job at hiding how I really felt about being back here? As much as I have missed everyone here, my old life, and my old friends, things just aren’t the same anymore. It feels wrong being here without my brother and the rest of my friends. It’s different and awkward.

“I’m not hiding anything, Byakuya” I told him. Byakuya was still staring at me, like he didn’t believe me at all. “I’m just getting used to being back, seeing old friends. And honestly it feels different being here without my brother and them” I told him, giving him the half of the truth. Byakuya nodded his head in understanding.

“You know that I am always here for you, Kazumi” Byakuya told me, his smile returning. I let out a light laugh.

“Are you sure you’re not just saying that because you like me still, lil Byakuya? Because if I remember correctly you had the biggest crush on me when you were a kid” I asked, a full blown laugh escaping my lips. Byakuya’s face immediately turned red and he quickly looked away.
