Kazumi's P.O.V
"It has been a long time since I've saw you last, Kat. I'm so happy that you're doing well" Kisuke said, pulling me into his arms and embracing me in a warm hug. I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face in the crock of his neck.
"I'm sorry that I left so suddenly, I just had to follow my heart" I mumbled so that only he could hear. Kisuke's chest vibrated slightly as a chuckle escaped his parted lips.
"I know more than anyone to trust your instincts" he said. I unwrapped myself from Kisuke's embrace and gave him a small smile.
"Thank you for trusting me" I told him. Kisuke gave me a slight smile and nodded his head. His eyes averted suddenly when someone let out a slight cough. Kisuke and I pulled apart and looked over at Shuhei who was still standing outside of Kisuke's shop, looking at us awkwardly. But I also noticed something in the gleam in his eyes. Was it jealously that I saw shining in the hue of his eyes, or something else? I wasn't quite sure. I turned away from Shuhei and looked back over at Kisuke. "Do you mind if we stay here until we are done in the world of the living?" I asked. Kisuke's smile grew, he brought out the fan that he always carried with him and fanned it lightly at his face.
"Now do you really have to ask me that? You know that you are always welcomed in my home Kat" Kisuke said. I rolled my eyes at him. Kisuke stepped aside and allowed Shuhei to enter his shop. "I will tell Tessa to ready your rooms; in the meantime there is tea on the table. Please help yourselves" Kisuke said, turning around to go find Tessa.
"Come on Shuhei, the kitchen is this way" I told him, making my way slowly to the kitchen. I didn't even bother to see if Shuhei was following me or not. It was good to be back amongst people that I can actually trust.
"You and Kisuke seem close" Shuhei stated as he set his bag down and took a seat right beside it. I narrowed my eyes slightly at him. So it was jealously that I saw in his eyes earlier, but why? I questioned to myself as I poured myself and Shuhei some tea, handing his cup to him. "Thank you" Shuhei mumbled, taking his cup from my hands.
"Kisuke has known me since I was a little girl" I told him. Shuhei didn't say anything though. It was as if he was expecting me to say something more. He slowly picked up his cup of tea, aligning the rim of the cup with his mouth, and tipping it back slightly; taking a very slow and long drink. I could tell that something was on his mind, but what? "Kisuke is someone that I view like an older brother, nothing more. So no, nothing has ever happened between Kisuke and I. Plus I know who Kisuke's heart truly belongs to" I rambled. Why I was beginning to ramble was odd though. It was like I felt the need to explain myself to him. But I didn't know why. It's not like Shuhei has feelings for me, or that I have feelings for Shuhei. And we aren't together in that aspect either. So why I felt the sudden need to explain myself was unsure. Shuhei set his cup of tea on the table softly, giving me a questionable look.
"I never asked if something happened between the two of you. All I said was that it seems that the two of you are very close" Shuhei said. I gave him a sly smirk, resting my chin on the palm of my hand.
"You didn't have to say anything Shuhei. But it was obvious that you were thinking something. So I thought that I would just clarify things to you is all. I don't want you getting the wrong idea about Kisuke and I" I told him. Shuhei tilted his head to the side. I noticed that he did that when he as confused. It was honestly adorable.
"And why would I care if something did happen between Kisuke and you?" Shuhei harshly questioned. I flinched slightly at the harshness in his tone. His demeanor was cold as well. I wonder what brought on the sudden change in him. Or did I honestly get the wrong idea in what I saw in Shuhei's eyes earlier? Maybe that was it. I was tired after all so maybe I did imagine the jealous that poured over his eyes when Kisuke gave me a hug. I mean did it honestly matter anyways? It's not like I have feelings for Shuhei. But then why did I feel like I cared if he was jealous or not?
"Now that you two are comfortable, would you like to discuss business now or later after you get some rest?" Kisuke asked, walking into the kitchen. I released the breath that I didn't even know that I was holding in. I was honestly happy for the interruption.
"We can discuss it now, resting can wait" Shuhei said. I nodded my head in agreement. Kisuke glanced between Shuhei and me, his eyebrow rising in a questionable manner. God only knows what was going through Kisuke's mind. But from the look on his face, he seems to think that something was happening between Shuhei and me. And that's just what I needed, Kisuke thinking something like that and then going to tell my brother. I rolled my eyes slightly at how Kensei would react by Kisuke's false accusations.
"Very well then" Kisuke said moments later. He took a seat at the end of the table, reaching over to grab the pot of tea, and pouring some into his cup. Kisuke placed the pot of tea in the middle of the table again before picking up his cup and taking a sip. "I can't honestly be sure what is going on. All I know is out of nowhere hollows began to appear out of thin air. But the thing about the hollows appearing, they don't attack anyone. It's like they only appear for some time before disappearing again" Kisuke explained. My eyebrows crunched together.
"So they haven't attacked anyone?" I questioned in disbelief. I glanced over at Shuhei who was also looking at Kisuke in disbelief. Kisuke shook his head no.
"I can't explain it, but I think they are planning something. But what that something is I do not know" Kisuke said. This caused Shuhei to let out a slight chuckle, causing Kisuke and I to look over at him questionably.
"Hollows don't plan anything, Kisuke. They aren't that smart. The only thing that hollows know how to do is hunt, hurt, feed, and kill; anything else that isn't in one of those categories doesn't sound right" Shuhei stated.
"Shuhei is right, that doesn't sound right at all" I said. Kisuke's lips parted, a heavy sigh escaping them.
"None of this sounds right and nothing feels right. Everything has been off for the last week and I can't really explain what is going on. But you two must have felt it when you entered the world of the living. That off feeling, that feeling that something was very wrong" Kisuke said. Shuhei and I glanced at one another. Kisuke was right; ever since Shuhei and I came to the world of the living I've been getting this feeling that something was right at all.
"So clearly the hollows are up to something. So we need to find out what exactly they are up to" I said.
"And how do you suggest we find this out, Kazumi?" Shuhei questioned me. I glanced over at Kisuke and then back over to Shuhei.
"Well it's simple, we just capture a hollow and interrogate him" I said. Shuhei looked at me like I was insane. After all we normally don't capture hollows, we normally just take care of them by either sending them back where they came from or killing them.
"Well it's a start, I guess" Kisuke said. Shuhei glanced over at Kisuke giving him the same look that he was giving me, like we were both insane. "We have to find out the truth" Kisuke told him. Shuhei continued to look back and forth between Kisuke and me, giving us insane looks. But finally he let out a heavy sigh and agreed.
"Great now that, that is settled; I say we rest up and go capture ourselves a hollow in the morning" I told them. I finished the tea that was in my cup before getting up and heading to my room. I didn't need Kisuke to tell me where to go, I already knew. After all I did use to live here for some time before I went back to the Soul Society.
