Ch. 2 Dan Land

The whole school day Phil had tried not to think about that morning, but the images burned into his brain like hot iron. Throughout the day his teachers kept asking him why he was such a mess and all Phil could say was "I tripped and fell on my face and cried".

He missed Dan he tried to put in a few calls to him at lunch but no answer. All of Phils nerdy friends were talking about how much fun math was going to be while Phil just sat there pretending to listen to his friends but profusely thinking about Dan.

He was definitely in Dan Land.

Suddenly one of his friends turned over and looked at Phil, "aye Phil aren't you excited for math! Mrs. Brooks says she is going to give us homework to boost our brains for the year!" Phil sat there with a blank look on his face, "shit I can't have math homework today as much fun as that sounds I have to go see Dan" he said those words inside his head but said in a fake happy expression, "yay math is so fun I'm really pumped!"

When math class finally started the math teacher Mrs. Brooks looked at Phil as he walked in with the warmest smile and spoke in a high voice, "Ah Phillip my favorite student!" Phil blushed at the sound of her words. "Mrs. Brooks my favorite teacher!" He uttered aloud. As he took his seat he got his math notebook out and stared to doodle, making little drawings and listing ways he could make it up to Dan. When the bell finally rang Phil darted out of his seat almost halfway out the door when... "Mr. Lester!" His math teacher called. " yes Mrs. B?" Phillip we are friends! Call me Darcy"...which was her first name... "Why did u call me back in here?"...

"Well Phillip you weren't quite paying attention to the board is everything alright? Did you understand the material?"... "Oh yes i did understand but I've just been a little tired lately". "I see, did you know where Daniel Howell was today he wasn't present in any of his classes?" Phil looked away trying not to shed a single tear..."oh Dan...yea he sprained his ankle pretty badly this morning he is in the hospital now" Mrs. B's facial expression changed from a wide smile to a slight frown "I see...he was always a bit of a trouble maker, always making up excuses not to come to school, probably ditching".

Phil suddenly felt his cheeks get super hot but not with embarrassment but with rage..."uh Mrs. B don't ever say that about Dan he is a wonderful person and he is not ditching, I was there when he sprained his ankle and I am the one who rushed him to the hospital, so I assure you Dan is not ditching, now good day to you ma'am!"

Phil stormed out of the class room and and straight to his locker he put all of his books away and looked at the clock, "yay school is over, Phil had never said that before and the girl next to him at her locker looked at him with a confused look on her face "but I thought you like loved school" she said... Wow that girl is kinda cute he thought "I do I just uh gotta go bye!"

He slammed his locker shut and ran off campus, so fast that he almost got hit by a car. When Phil arrived at the hospital he quickly went into the nearest gift shop and picked out Dan's favorite chocolates and a stuffed llama to give to him. After he paid he headed straight for the front desk, "excuse me ma'am can you tell me where I could find Daniel Howell?"...

"room 204B here's the card to swipe to open the door it's to your left"... Phil darted up the hallway and kept running until he saw it 204B he swiped the card and walked into the room... Dan had a black cast on his leg and it looked silly so Phil let out a giggle, Dan turned to see his best friend Phil... Dan was happy to see Phil but at the same time he was mad at him.  "Oh it's just the little motherfucker who broke my ankle". Dan was in basketball shorts and he had no shirt on but Phil didn't care... He was just happy to see his best friend...

Phil didn't give a crap about what Dan called him he was so happy to see him so he ran over to the hospital bed and gave Dan the biggest hug. "I missed you today Dan" Phil said with a huge smile on his face,"why didn't you pick a more colorful cast?".. Dan suddenly went from a smiling face to a big frown..."the stupid nurses asked me what my favorite color was and I said black, I didn't know they were going to make my cast black! It looks so shitty and the worst part is they said I can't wear my skinny jeans for 2 months I have to wear baggy ass shorts!

"Oh Dan you will look great in anything you wear so don't be upset" he gave Dan another hug... Did Phil just say I look good in anything I wear? Dan thought as he smiled at Phil and hugged back..."Phil the nurses said I can leave when I want to shall we go now?"...

"Phil smiled and helped Dan out of the hospital bed and he quickly put his shirt on. "Let's go" Phil said with a huge smile on his face... Dan quickly grabbed his crutches and followed Phil out the door... They both had huge smiles on their faces and everyone who walked past them knew they had something really special...
