Caroline's POV

I smile as I see Elena, waving to her. She smiles back when she sees me. I look to my left, seeing a cute guy with black framed glasses and dark curly hair staring at me with a smile. Blushing, I look away. Even if he is cute, he's nothing compared to Klaus. Every opportunity I get to potentially meet a new guy, I turn it down because I compare him to Klaus. It's becoming a habit.

"Hey Caroline. How did your first day back go?" She asks in excitement, flipping her long chocolate brown locks behind her shoulder. I was always jealous of how long her hair grew.

"Good," I smile yet find my gaze continuing to stare at the nerdy, cute guy. He kept his eyes on me, not taking them off even when I noticed him. Why did he keep staring?

"Meet anyone new?" Elena asks. I shake my head.

"Nope, but I did catch up on some of my work needed. There's a whole lot..." My voice trails off, seeing the guy again. He was looking at me, and then quickly walking the other direction.

"Don't worry, I'll help you catch up on everything: math, science, biology..." I didn't hear the rest of her sentence as I notice yet again the guy staring. I quickly stop her.

"I'll be right back. Stay here," I smile, trying not to get her nervous. I quicken my pace as the guy speeds away, finally catching up to him as he disappeared into an alley. I pin him against the wall.

"Why the hell are you staring at me?!" I demand, pressing him harder up against the brick wall. His eyes are full of fear. I lessen my grip on his tall, lean figure.

"P-please I c-can't breath!" He squeaks, struggling. I let go of him as he attempts to catch his breath. I hear his heartbeat slow down a bit.

"What the hell are you?!" He says in shock at my strength. I roll my eyes.

"How about you tell me what you are first?" He shakes his head.

"You don't get it, my father wanted me to find you. He said you were a threat to our campus. He never told me why, but now, now I understand!" I inch my way towards him.

"Whose your father?" I compel him. I guess he's on vervain when he doesn't immediately answer me.

"Why would I tell you that? You're a monster! You nearly just killed me! No wonder my father wants you dead..." He mumbles the last part. Suddenly, I grow worried.

"Dead?! I was just protecting myself! I'm not a monster!" I lie. He crosses his arms.

"Then how do you explain the strength you have? You nearly killed me using one arm! No offense but a tiny thing like you could never do something like that being human," he crosses his arms. I roll my eyes at his comment.

"I took karate when I was a kid. My dad taught me how to fight, and my mother was a cop. I'm not some monster," I laugh as if he were crazy.

"Well then why did my dad strictly tell me that you were? He knows everything about everyone- including your roommate," he growls. My heart nearly skips a beat.

"Elena?"

"Oh was that her name? See my plan was to distract you while he grabbed your little friend. You tried to fool me Caroline, but oh how wrong you were to do that. I've been hunting vampires since I was five. It was quite funny... Karate? You couldn't have thought of a better excuse, really?" He chuckles evilly in my ear. I look at him in disgust. He tricked me?

I look around. Elena was gone, I had no clue what his "father" was capable of, and I had no idea what he was capable of...

"I swear if you even touch her-"

"What? You'll kill me? You can of course try, but you won't get very far. Even if you do, you'll face a new problem- my father," he grins sadistically. His words are chilling.

"I don't care about your father. If you do anything to Elena, I will kill your father and anyone you care about. I will torture you until you can't take it anymore- then I will torture you even more. And when you're at your weakest point, I'll kill you. A slow and painful death," I whisper, threateningly. He bursts out laughing.

"Oh I'm sorry, I really am. See that's a tempting offer, but I just find it hilarious how you think you can defeat my father like that,"

"It's funny how much you doubt me," I reply, and he smirks at my response.

"You're cute, really- but I'm afraid I have no time left. I must return to my father soon, and I can't leave knowing you're going to follow me," he states.

Before I can process what is happening, I feel three wooden bullets shoot close to my heart, sending me to the floor. I look up one last time to see the guy walking away before falling to the ground, only seeing blackness.
