Chaoter Twelve

Caroline's POV

I awaken, yawning as I look up at the stars. Why am I on the ground?

Suddenly, my memories shoot back to my brain- Elena was gone, the guy and his dad had her, and I have no idea where they are.

"Oh no..." I whisper to myself, extremely nervous. My face turns red as I stand up, a bit light headed. I quickly pull out my contacts. There's only one person who can help me with this who knew how to put down a real fight. He picks up within two rings.

"Caroline, love, miss me already?" I hear Klaus's suggestive voice.

"K-klaus I need your help please," my voice is shaky and breaking within each word I speak.

"Caroline, what's wrong? Where are you? Are you hurt?" His voice is beyond worried now, catching onto the fact I'm not joking.

"Yes, this guy distracted me while his dad took Elena and he shot me with these damn bullets and I need your help getting them out and finding Elena. Please," I beg. I am now beyond crying. I can't help it. Everything is going wrong, especially when I was just starting to feel the tiniest bit of happiness.

"Where are you?" He asks quickly. I feel calmer hearing his voice, even if he sounds like a complete nervous wreck. It settles me a bit, but I let out a whimper. The pain is becoming unbearable.

"Whitmore," I whisper a bit quieter because of the distress caused by the bullets. It's like every time I move, the wood moves a tiny bit closer to my heart.

"I'll be there in two," he says before hanging up the phone.

Klaus's POV

I run over to the college faster than I have ever gone, my heart breaking for Caroline. Whoever this guy and dad was she was talking about were going to pay- big time.

When I get there, I see her laying on the floor in an alleyway, struggling to stay awake due to the blood surrounding her. I quickly run over to her and hold her in my arms, gently. She smiles slightly.

"K-klaus. Thank you," she whispers first. I can't help but smile. Even when in so much agony, she still manages to look beautiful. My focus quickly darts to her wounds which are clearly hurting her.

"This is going to hurt, okay?" I warn her. She nods as I put my hand into her open wound, quickly trying to pick out the bullets. She winces and cries in pain. I want to torture the guy who hurt her so much.

"Klaus, Klaus it hurts," Caroline's body is defeated as she stops struggling against my hands. It hurts me so much to see her this way.

"Shh," I calm her, running a hand through her hair as I pull the last piece out. She gasps as I do so and collapses onto me. I catch her and help her up to her feet, letting her lean on me for support until she heals.

"T-thanks," she mumbles and smiles slightly. I nod.

"Did you see where he went off to?" I question. She looks down in disappointment, already giving me my answer. I sigh and run my hands through my hair.

"He shot me before I could see. I-I'm so scared Klaus. Elena is missing! They could have already killed her by now. She could be dead and it would be all my fault," Caroline cries. I place my hands on her shoulders.

"Hey, listen to me- this is not your fault, do you understand? You had nothing to do with this Caroline," I force her to stare me in my eyes.

"B-but I could have just killed that guy and then Elena wouldn't be stuck in the problem I created and everyone would have been fine. I ruined things again," she wipes at her eyes, wanting the tears to stop. My heart breaks.

"Do you truly believe it's your fault? Because it's not. You're insane if you think you had anything to do with this, Caroline. They were hunters, they did this. Okay?" I assure her. She nods and wipes her tears. I have never seen her so guilty before, besides the night I spent with her when she was crying about her mother. It's all just too much for someone like her to handle. She's much more fragile than she leads people to believe.

"Let's just try and get a lead on where Elena is. I'm killing that bastard the first glimpse I see him," she growls, a new side of her showing. I am beyond amused by her angriness. It makes me admire her personality even more.

"We'll get our revenge, don't worry," I tell her with a smirk before helping her towards my car.
