"There's more coming. I knew something was up, ever since I went outside this morning..." Nineteen said, then she sighed in frustration. She went away from the window.
"Where're you going?" Sixteen asked, quickly turning her head to see Nineteen.
"I'm going to go upstairs. Stay down here" Nineteen said as she went up the stairs.
Sixteen turned back to look outside and saw that the trucks began to park in front of the house. They were probably parked all around it by now. She thought back to when Nineteen said something about the door being unlocked and how odd it was. Or how Nineteen said that she saw movement, and when Sixteen walked inside to open the cabinets, everything had been filled with food. They should've known that this place was a trap in the first place, but they didn't, and now they were stuck here until they found somewhere to escape from. But that's what had been bothering Sixteen.
Were they going to get away this time? Or were they going to get captured?
This was what scared her the most. These questions swimming in her head made her insides twist and turn in fear, and she knew that she'd go insane if she didn't fight them back. Literally. Her mind seemed to have a mind of it's own, in a way, and it's been increasingly overactive ever since she was born. Especially now when Sixteen turned...well... 16, that's when it started to get worse. She couldn't control her thoughts, and Nineteen had to listen to her mutter nonsense in her sleep. Sixteen also used to think of how she and Nineteen didn't turn out like the rest of the world.
There were people that also had these numbers engraved in their wrists like Sixteen and Nineteen, but they weren't exactly like them. They were sick people that either went mad or died. They were the opposite of the people currently standing outside of the house. These people, the ones outside, were like Sixteen and Nineteen, but they weren't like them either. They wore these mask that were made of a type of an unbreakable glass that covered the bottom half of their faces. It protected their noses and mouth, but their eyes weren't covered by the weird device. The mask seemed to be attached to some type of small white air container that clipped to every ones' belts. Nineteen and Sixteen had never needed those, but for some reason, those people did. What made her and Nineteen any different? In what way were they different?
Questions. So many answered, yet much more still remain a mystery to her. Of course, Sixteen knew that they were different from the rest of the ill world and the men and women with masks. They were different, and Sixteen felt so, deep down inside.
Maybe this time they were going to get captured, but there was always that strand of hope that kept Sixteen and Nineteen alive and out of their grasp. They've encountered these people many times before, but that was only when they'd be spying on them from a distance. By the time they spotted Sixteen and Nineteen, the sisters were already up and running.
Today, though, Sixteen and Nineteen weren't the ones spying. They were the ones being spied on, and now they couldn't escape the house. Sixteen had been pacing around the house awhile trying to come up with a plan, but no ideas came. Sixteen decided to sit on the couch, which didn't really make her feel any better, because as soon as she sat down, a loud crash was heard from upstairs.
"Nineteen!!" Sixteen yelled her name, shot up from the couch, and ran upstairs.
Nineteen went upstairs to find a way out, and that's exactly what she would find when she got up there. There was a hallway that lead to only one door on the right and two doors on the left, each one leading into a room. She went to the side with only one door, but when she tried to open it, it was locked.
"Great", Nineteen said half heartedly. Nineteen looked around her to see if there was something she could break the door open with, but there was nothing close to her. She went to the opposite side of where she was before, and saw that one of the doors was ajar. She heard ruffling noises and something that sounded like muffled scraping against the floor. She carefully opened the door a little more, and peeked inside. Her heart dropped when she saw one of them inside; one of the Infected.
