Sixteen sank to her knees. What was she going to do without Nineteen? What if she never saw her again?

Right now, she didn't know what to do and she didn't know where to go; the woods could probably go on for limitless miles. Sixteen had always dreaded the day when Nineteen would disappear and sadly it was today. But there had to be a reason why Nineteen went behind her, otherwise Nineteen would still be here with her right now. She highly doubted that Nineteen got caught, and Nineteen didn't get lost either.

"Of course", Sixteen said aloud, "She went to find the Infected". It made sense: Nineteen went to find the Infected for a various amount of reasons, and plus he had information. Sixteen didn't know what that information could be, but back at the tunnel Sixteen saw how the Infected looked at her. He wasn't that surprised when she made the wall burst outward with her hands.

Sixteen got up and walked back the way she came to see if she could find Nineteen, but something stopped her after she walked a few feet. She felt like she was being watched, and she didn't like the feeling.

+++++

Nineteen hated leaving Sixteen alone by herself. What if her plan didn't work out as she thought? What if her little sister got taken? She doubted that Sixteen would get taken, but then again, she wasn't so sure. Sixteen could be anywhere, and knowing her sister she would've found out that Nineteen wasn't behind her.

          "Please, Sixteen. Don't try to find me", Nineteen muttered to herself.

          Her plan was easy, right? Well, it was way more easier said than done. What Nineteen had decided to do was to let Sixteen in front of her so that Sixteen could run a good distance. Nineteen purposely stopped and watched Sixteen run ahead until she couldn't be seen anymore. After she thought this whole thing through, she knew that finding the Infected was important; he had information, and information is what she needed. He probably knew what Sixteen had done back at the tunnel. Now, as Nineteen tried to make it all the way back to the house, she kept trying to think positive, though, thinking positive was very futile. Especially in the world they lived in now.

          Nineteen kept running, and as out of breath as she was, she didn't stop. That was until she heard the heart-wrenching shrieks of her sister. Her cries sounded so distant that Nineteen barely even heard them, but she knew them enough to be Sixteen's. Nineteen had froze and held her breath.

          You should've never left her, she scolded herself. Nineteen had to run to her sister even though her lungs were on fire and her legs going numb in pain. Even her throat was dry, and when she swallowed it was like she just gulped a spoonful of wet sand. With nothing on her mind but Sixteen, she began to jog and then break into a sprint.

          "Sixteen...I'm coming". Nineteen's inside felt as if they were beginning to rot with sorrow. she tried to tell herself that Sixteen was alive and that nothing happened to her. For some reason, she couldn't believe it. The only person that kept her going had finally gone away. Nineteen was crying before she even knew it, and tears were spilling out of her eyes. At first, she began to slow down; what was the point in running to someone who didn't exist anymore? Then, she heard two things: a girl call out her name, and a gunshot.

          As Sixteen felt eyes on her from almost everywhere, she froze. The silence was sending chills up her spine making her head whip everywhere to make sure no one was trying to sneak up on her. Sixteen also began to feel a little more terrified as the forest seemed to be getting darker. That sent a thought to her head. What time is it? With this thought on her mind, she began to walk very slowly. She wondered why time was her enemy and not her friend right now.
