Before Sixteen even knew it, the Infected had viciously tackled her, making her head slam onto a root of a tree.

Being dazed and trying to fight off an Infected was bad enough, but having a newborn Infected was worse. They had endless energy and were thirsty for blood. With the thing trying to rip through her face, and Sixteen trying to not lose her grip on its neck, she thought of grabbing the gun. It wasn't too far away, maybe she could get it.

Sixteen struggled to bring her leg up to kick the Infected, but that took a turn for the worst. Its head turned so quickly to her leg it actually cracked. It grabbed her leg and bit into it, making her yelp as she tried to kick it in the face. Every movement she made with her leg, its teeth kept tearing at her skin little by little, making it feel like her leg was being cut up by a knife. Finally, Sixteen felt its jaw untighten, and it gave her a small chance for her to yank her leg free and then swing it back to send a blow to its face. As soon as she knew that it was off of her leg, she began to quickly crawl towards the gun. Sixteen merely touched it when the Infected grabbed both of her legs, causing her to fall flat on her stomach. This made her suck in her breath.

Fear was taking over her mind, and she found herself kicking against the Infected. Her trashing around didn't even so much as faze it as the Infected started to shriek. Sixteen actually stopped and listened, and she swore that she could hear more of them coming as their screams were being heard from a distance.

"Oh my God", Sixteen whispered to herself. She started to struggle even more against the Infected, but the more she tried, the more it pulled on her, making her leg bleed more and more. Sixteen wasn't crying, but tears were coming anyways. This may not have been the most scariest thing that had ever happened to her, but it was there. She was going to die if she didn't think of something fast. When she tried to think now, nothing came.  Her mind was blank.

Sixteen's stomach was on fire with all the cuts and scrapes making their way onto her skin, made by the ground of the forest and the roots of the trees. The bite hurt her the most, feeling like someone was digging around in her wound. The screams of the Infected kept getting closer, making Sixteen grow more and more afraid than she had been before. Her heart was beating so fast that she was so sure it was going to beat right out of her chest. Out of fear, she began to fight back even more, and then when she found her voice, she began to scream. She was clawing the dirt with her hands, trying to get a grip on something. All that left her with was dirt-caked nails and scratched palms. This Infected had her in a death grip, and would not let go for anything.

Then, Sixteen did something that she thought might not have worked. She knew she had to do this fast, otherwise she'd get a mouthful of dirt. When the timing felt right, Sixteen put her hands on the ground, making it look like she was about to do a push-up, and pushed herself backward, her feet making contact with the creature's stomach.

While the Infected fell flat on its back making a terrible cracking sound, Sixteen landed on her stomach and gasped for air as she crawled quickly away on her knees and then got on her two feet and started running towards the gun. Sixteen forgot that she had a wound until she pounded her right foot on the ground. She sucked in air through her teeth as soon as she felt the pain in her calf. She tried not to think about it when she bent down to pick up the gun, though that was hard to do because the pain got even greater when she did that. It felt like someone had taken a whole chunk of her leg with their bare hands.

When Sixteen got back up, she was face to face with another Infected, and it looked hungry.

+++++
"Let me go," Nineteen almost shouted.

The Infected kept a firm grip of her arm that was pinned behind her back. It was starting to hurt a little.

"Quiet", he said in a sharp whisper. He tilted his head to the side a little and listened.

Nineteen decided to do the same, just to see what it was he wanted to hear.

The noise she heard sent chills up her spine, making her skin crawl. She heard the wails and screams of Infected, getting louder by the minute.

"Sixteen," she mumbled.

The Infected was quiet for a moment, and then seemed to realize that she wasn't here with them.

"C'mon," he said as he let go of her and started to run towards the screams.

Nineteen stretched out her arm and started running, following the boy to the crowd of Infected that awaited them.

It turned out they didn't have to run for long. Along with the shrieks of the Infected, there was another scream that didn't sound like them at all. They sounded really close, too.

"Sixteen!" Nineteen started running towards all the yelling and screeching. She knew Sixteen was with them, and that she was alive after all. Relief flooded all throughout Nineteen's body, but she still had to save Sixteen from the mad creatures trying to rip her to shreds.

Busy calling out Sixteen's name, she barely heard hers coming from the Infected that was helping her.

"Nineteen, stop!" His voice was urgent and harsh.

Nineteen didn't listen and ran towards her sister anyways. There was a curtain of moss hanging from a tree that she was approaching. She was about to yank it off until a hand gripped her wrist and pulled her back.

"I told you to stop," the Infected whispered to her as he had her in a death grip again, with her arm aching a little more than it had been before.

"Let me go," she tried to get out of his hold, but he wasn't exactly giving up on letting her run away.

"Shh!" He pulled Nineteen slowly towards behind a tree. He released her arm and turned her around to face him, both of his hands placed on her shoulders. With his eyes boring through hers, she felt like he was trying to get inside of her mind and read her thoughts.

"If you're going to go in there with me, you better stay close. You have to be quick if one tries to attack," he was talking too fast, and Nineteen was too worried about Sixteen to listen.

All Nineteen did was nod. "I need to get in there," she mumbled.

Never had fear gotten to her this much. It was tearing up her chest and making her heart skip a beat every time she heard a scream.

Suddenly, a loud yelp echoed throughout the forest.

Nineteen acted quickly, shoving the Infected out of the way and running to the moss curtain, pulling it down. When she saw the state that Sixteen was in, her heart sank.

"Sixteen!!" Nineteen ran over to her sister who was torn up and scratched all over. She was been in crawling position. She had dirt all over herself, blood splatters on the shoulder part of her shirt, and there was a nasty wound on her calf. Her flesh looked like it was falling off of her leg.

Sixteen was shaking and sweating at the same time. It had to be the bite.

"Get the gun, Nineteen. The gun," she said frantically. She pointed to a black handgun that only lay a few feet away.

Nineteen ran for it, and grabbed it just as an Infected leapt on her from above. It knocked her off balance and she fell, landing on her back. She sucked in a breath. The Infected wrapped it's disgusting fingers around Nineteen's neck and tried to slam her head on the ground. She was trying to fight it off, but it was stronger than her. Its fingers tightened even more, and its nails hurt as they sank through her skin. Nineteen coughed, trying to gasp for air. Then, she heard more Infected that seemed to be there when she came to Sixteen.

Nineteen's eyes felt like they were bulging out of their sockets.

All at once, the Infected was tackled by another one, and they slammed onto the ground.

Nineteen hacked up a storm, and forgot all about the gun that had been knocked out of her hand. When she looked up at the two fighting, she immediately knew that one of them was that boy.

He was punching the other Infected in the face, and very hard, too. Nineteen could've sworn she heard a crack.

Nineteen's attention turned back to Sixteen, and she saw that she was crawling towards Nineteen, her face looking like she'd seen a ghost. When Nineteen looked behind her, she saw millions of pairs of glowing yellow eyes in the dark, hidden behind the bushes, tree branches, and vines. Now that Nineteen thought about it, she did hear Infected screaming here, and so did Sixteen. But where did they go?

A loud cracking noise came from the right side of her, and she jumped, then turned around to see the boy standing with a brown, red liquid all over his hands. She slowly looked down to see that the Infected's head was completely smashed open. Its jaw was even ripped from its head along with its brain spilling out on the ground. Nineteen felt like someone punched her in the stomach while she had just finished eating.

"Nineteen," Sixteen half-whispered half-whimpered. She was still on the ground, but she was facing to where all eyes seemed to be staring.

Nineteen looked all around her, spinning slowly around, and there were glowing pairs of eyes everywhere. They were surrounded.

Surrounded by Infected.
