15. Piece of Parchment
Rosa's feet landed on the hard tile of the wizarding hospital and she looked around nervously. She quickly located what she was looking for and went to the third floor. She signed in, sat and waited. She looked around at the practically empty room, her stomach churning.
"Miss Rosannah Riddle." Said a calm voice. Rosa stood and was ushered into a room and instructed to sit on the table.
She sat in the room, fighting back tears. She couldn't possibly be. There was no way. There was no possible way that it could be so. A minute later, the door opened and in came a Healer with blond hair and a calm smile.
"Hello Rosa. How can I help you today?" The Healer asked the young, scared witch before her.
"I..." She paused and took a deep breath. "I need to know if I-I'm pregnant or not." She had said it, making it all too real. Fear settled into her stomach and she groaned inwardly as the Healer checked her charts and shook her head.
"Alright, honey. I'll do the test." She said quietly and took out her wand. She instructed Rosa to lie down, she did. The Healer ran her wand over the young girls abdomen. After a minute, she was finished.
"Alright, Rosa. Do you want me to tell you?" She said slipping her wand back into her pocket. Her face showed no information. "Or do you want me to right you a letter and you can open it in private?"
Rosa chose the letter and she left. She felt the stiff parchment in her pocket and sighed. She Apparated back to Hogsmeade and made her way back to Hogwarts. She sat in the Room for an hour, staring at the piece of parchment. She was sick several times and was feeling terrible. Dread crept into her as she lifted the envelope.
"I've got to do this before Harry comes back." She said to herself and quickly broke the seal of the letter. She took a deep breath and looked at it.
' Dear Rosannah Riddle,
On the 11th of February, you visited me to inquire whether or not you were pregnant. I ran the test and you wanted me to give you the results in this letter. The results came back positive, Rosannah. You are pregnant. You seem to be about a 5 weeks along and your infamous baby bump will start to show around the 16th week. Congratulations, Rosannah. You'll need to start seeing a Healer every few weeks to monitor the baby's growth and development. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Healer Jane Glenwood.'
"Oh Merlin." She whispered as she read the letter several times. Her hand floated to her stomach where it was confirmed a small human being was growing. "Oh Merlin, no!"
She didn't want this! Not now. Not with Voldemort coming back. Not with graduation and exams three months away! She was too stressed as it was. She sighed and threw the parchment on the couch beside her.
"I don't want a child!" She muttered aloud. She laid down on the couch. Her mind wandering to little Teddy and the innocent life inside her.
"I'm sorry, baby." She whispered as guilt filtered into her. "I didn't mean that, angel. It's not your fault. Mommy wants you. I promise."
Her hand again went to her small, flat stomach. She sat thinking about the child inside her. Would it be a boy or a girl? Would it be like Harry more or like her? She continued to think about how the child would turn out, her hand absent-mindedly rubbing the nonexistent baby bump.
Another hour later, Harry came in to find Rosa asleep on the couch. He smiled gently. He kissed her forehead and sat down beside her. She stirred and opened her eyes, groggily she smiled at him and he chuckled.
"Feeling better?" He asked and she nodded her head. "Good."
"Mhm." Rosa replied, setting up and resting her head on Harry's shoulder. She felt him lean forward.
"What's this?" He asked gently. He picked up the parchment Rosa had discarded earlier. Her eyes widened in horror and she snatched in away from him quickly. He raised an eyebrow.
"Umm. It is mine." She said avoiding his eyes. He chuckled and shook his head.
"Okay then." He pulled her back against him, assuming it was a hateful letter from her mother. Rosa sighed in relief and slipped the letter into her pocket. She would tell him, but not right now.
"Rosa, you know I love you. Right?" Harry asked after setting together for a while. Rosa looked at him like he was mad.
"Of course I know, Harry. And I love you." Rosa replied.
"Remember that." He said nervously and stood up. The wizard paced around for a moment. Rosa watched him, nerves eating away at her.
"Alright." Harry said finally. He stopped pacing and went to stand in front of Rosa.
"What-" Rosa asked, but stopped as the wizard before her pulled a little box out of his pocket. The witch gasp in surprise.
"Rosannah Riddle." Harry said softly. "I love you and I want you to be my wife. I want you to marry me."
"Harry." Rosa said quietly.
"Will you marry me?" He asked and looked up at her, slightly afraid she would reject him.
"Of course." She whispered happily. She threw herself into Harry's arms and held him close, determined to never let him go.
"Here." He said gently. He took her hand and put the small, golden band on the third finger of her left hand.
"I love you so much." He said softly. She nodded
"I love you too." She replied.
The two spent the night excitedly talking about what would be next. They set the date for May, so everyone would be out of school and everyone could attend. Numerous times Harry brought up the subject of children, though every time Rosa averted the subject. It wasn't that she didn't want children, she did. She just wasn't ready to tell Harry about their child yet. Surly if she got on the subject, she would tell him the news she had found out.
The next day the two quickly dressed for the day and packed their belonging. They sent their trunks away to be packed on the train that awaited students.
