19. Letters & Exams

'Dear Rosa,

The Prophet today had a picture of Harry and you. The whole story was about you destroying You-Know-Who. They keep running it over and again.

Thank you for saving Ron, I don't know what I would've done if I had lost another son. Thank you dear. It surprises me that no one even knew You-Know-Who was coming back. The Prophet didn't say how he came back, but it told how you killed him. You did the world a favor, darling.

On a happier note, how is the baby doing? I remember when I was nineteen weeks pregnant with Bill. I was terrified. I hope your doing well dear. You'll be in our thoughts.

Love,

Molly Weasley.'

Rosa leant against the brick wall and read the letter Sky had just brought her from Mrs. Weasley. She smiled to herself and absent-mindedly rubbed her small, bumped out stomach.

"Come on, Rosa!" Hermione said, walking up to the witch. "We have our final exam in five minutes!"

"Alright." Rosa said and folded up the letter. She slid it into her pocket and made her way to Ancient Runes.

Across the grounds sat Draco Malfoy. He sat staring at the enchanted calendar; it read the second of May, one year ago Hogwarts was attacked.

He sat silently, remembering the tragedies of just a year before. At this time last year, everyone was fighting for their lives, now they were just trying to pass an exam.

Draco pulled out two fresh sheets of parchment and sighed. He had finished his exams, but his test wasn't over. He dipped his quill in the ink and with a shaky hand, he began to write the first of his two letters.

'Dear Mother and Father,

I am writing this to inform you. It is information that you would find out sooner or later, either from me or from another source.

What I need to tell you is that I've found love in the unlikeliest place. I've found forgiveness and a best friend. I'm in love with a muggle-born witch by the name of Hermione Granger. I love her, dear parents, so I have asked her to marry me. The witch will be my wife and share my name.

Father, I know as you read this, you're scoffing. 'How could my Pureblood son love a mudblood?' She isn't a mudblood father. She is an outstanding witch and I love her. Soon she will be Hermione Malfoy, my wife. Try as you might father, but you won't be able to dampen my mood. I do not fear you as I once did. I am a wizard who's love for his witch is deep and never ending. So, dear father, you have no control over me anymore.

Love Your Son,

Draco Malfoy.

P.S. Congratulations, in eight months you will have the honor of becoming grandparents. Hermione is parenting the next line of Malfoy's with me. Congratulations.'

He shook his head, knowing that his father would likely want to kill him because of the letter. He sealed and addressed it either way. Then, after quickly sending the letter off with a midnight-black owl, he prepared his second letter.

It was accustomed that when the witch of a Malfoy becomes pregnant, the wizard must prepare a letter. Draco knew that many times, a witch had been pregnant with a Malfoy and the wizard would perish. If he wanted his wishes for the child fulfilled he would need to write them, just in case.

'Dear Hermione,

My love, if you're reading this then I have left you. I am no longer with you, or our child. Though I'm gone, I still love you deeply. In this letter you will find my wishes for our son. Yes, our child will be a son, first born Malfoy's always are.
