Soldiers
A/N: Bonus Points if you know who is arriving this chapter!!
They stopped the truck on the outside of a small town at the edge of Nevada. He blinked his eyes open as he heard quiet whispering.
"Ssshhh."
"There's probably at least ten of 'em in there."
"If we kill one of 'em. The rest will probably wake up."
"Damn the government officials."
"We need a better plan."
Mike slowly opened his eyes and glanced cautiously towards the back of the truck. He saw three men standing at the edge of the truck. They weren't government, he'd decided that during the earlier conversation. He slowly sat up and the three guys drew on him instantly.
"Hey, I'm not government," Mike said softly. The first man stepped forward and cocked his head.
"Then why are ye in a government truck?" His Irish accent was definitely noticeable.
"We stole it. The elites attacked us and we had to get away."
"They kill any of ye?" the second guy asked. Mike swallowed.
"No. But one of us is hurt."
"Hear that Larry? One of 'em's hurt."
"Look, who are you guys and why were you planning to kill us?"
"Well wouldn't ye want to kill one of 'em fuckin' eejits?" the first man growled and Mike wanted to laugh. This guy was hysterically Irish.
"Yea we would," Mike agreed, "Now who are you?"
"This is Adam and ye already know Larry. And I'm Paul, but my friends call me Bono."
"Why?"
"They just do alright? Now wake yer friends up so we can get talkin'."
Mike sighed and moved the guys around in the truck, "Guys. We have company."
Mike saw Dave get up and he gasped as he saw the captain's face. The cuts across his face weren't bleeding anymore but they didn't look good. The one claw mark went across his eye.
"What happened to yer face?" Bono asked.
"Chester Bennington," Dave said quickly, "What do you want?"
"You mean that tool on the announcements with them green eyes?" Adam asked and Dave nodded. Flashlights turned on and Mike got a good look at the men. The man named Larry had short, light hair and was pretty short. Adam is a little taller than Larry with blonde hair as well. Mike can tell that they are both older than him. And then there was Bono. He was shorter than both the men with him and he had light brown hair that went back in what Mike could only describe as a razor fin. He had sunglasses on even though it was night and Mike could see tiny lights on the sides hinting that they probably had night vision or something.
"So ye ain't workin' with the government elites?"
"Nope. We're trying to rebel against them," Dave sighed. Mike nodded. The rest of the guys stayed silent. Bono nodded and Mike noticed that he was wearing camo. He was previous military.
"You were in the military," Mike said quietly and Bono nodded.
"I was. Not anymore since the military is corrupt. Look at my number."
Mike glanced at the tag and smiled slightly. The number was 80N0. Bono. He grinned and the Irish man nodded.
"Ye see it now don't ye?"
"You can come with us if you want," Dave said, "Are you armed?""Guns for each of us," Larry said, "A few smoke grenades and the keys to the bunkers."
"You have keys to the bunkers?" Brad asked in surprise. Larry nodded.
"We've had them ever since we met up with Bono. Being ex-military means ye have things from it."
"We can get into them bunkers easily," Bono said, "We've been trying to find some of those changers."
"The gauntlets," Dave said and Bono nodded.
"Those elites have enough weapons. We need the changers to fight back. If we could turn to beasts, we could have a chance."
Mike looked at the three men in front of him. Keys to the bunkers would be extremely useful. He glanced over at Dave who was nodding slightly.
"Alright. Welcome aboard," Dave said. The three Irish men grinned at them before hopping into the truck. They sat down at the edge of the bed of the truck and nodded enthusiastically.
"Let's get going then," Bono said waving his arm. Mike sat down in the back of the truck with them as Dave climbed into the front to tell Ryan and Tak to head off. The sun was just rising. The orange of the sun was just starting to peek out and Mike saw the light starting to shine over them.
"So, how long have you been against the government?" Mike asked the other three men.
"Ever since this shite hit the fan," Adam said gesturing to the world around them, "Ever since those elites have started burning things down."
Mike nodded and glanced out at the sun. He felt tired. He just hoped that they could get some of the gauntlets. If they could transform into animals, then they'd be able to fight.
"So you really have a way to get in?"
"Yep," Bono pulled out a plastic key card with a lanyard and Mike saw that it had a scanner on the bottom, "Ye see, they weren't able to cancel the cards. Many elites just got the old key cards of old military members. Mark wasn't expecting rebels."
Mike nodded, "So we can get in? Where's the nearest one?"
"There's one not far," Larry said quietly, "If ye want to...."
"Yea," Mike said as he leaned forward to Dave, "Dave. Next bunker you see, stop about a mile away and we'll go in."
"Was planning on doing it," he called back, "Let's get some technology."
They drove for a while longer and Mike leaned back against the seats in the truck. He looked at the three men that were sitting with him. They had the key to his revenge. Bono was studying something and there were noises coming from it. It seemed to be a screen of some sort. Like a portable television.
"Where'd you get that?" Mike asked.
"Kept it with me when I left the army. It gives me live broadcast from the government."
"Doesn't all the technology do that?" Mike asked, "Mark can broadcast whatever he wants."
"Yea but this is portable. Tell me Mike, do ye know what's been going on in D.C?"
"No," Mike confessed. Bono nodded and held out the screen. Mike looked at it and watched as he saw Chester standing there with a smirk on his face. His fist was clenched around the handle of a whip. He stared at the screen as the elite wound up and lashed out at a young man who was tied up against a pole in what looked to be the middle of town. Crowds of people had gathered around. He watched in horror as another lash tore up the man's back.
"Who.....who is that?"
"An innocent. Mark is using fear to show what will happen to people who don't turn rebels in. As far as I know, he hasn't done anything. He's just an example."
"Now if anyone withholds information on these rebels, this is where you'll end up!" Chester's voice pierced his ears and he turned back to the screen. His eyes widened in shock as he watched Chester draw his pistol and shoot the man in the back of the head. He covered his mouth.
"Oh my god," he whispered. Bono took the screen back from him and turned it off.
"It's been going on for the past week. They take out innocent people, there are curfews for cities. The executions happen at least twice a day in different cities and it's always that elite. Mark must like him."
"Has anything else happened?"
"One more thing," Bono said as he scrolled down on the screen, "Have ye ever seen this guy before?"
Mike studied the screen. There was an image of a guy who had to be about as tall as he was. He had light brown hair that was spiked up and light eyes that had a hardened look to them. He was skinny, most likely due to drug abuse from what Mike could see. He was a lot skinnier than he should've been. He was dressed in an elite uniform but unlike Chester, he didn't have a gauntlet. That meant he couldn't change. His boots were also higher than the other elites' giving him a superior look.
"No....who is it?"
"He's an elite. One that's higher than the others. He's only been mentioned once and his name is Scott Weiland. I've been trying to study his actions and they don't make any sense. He appears with Bennington and watches and then leaves with him."
Mike smirked, "It's because Chester's failed so many times to capture us. He needs someone to watch his back and make sure he carries out the job."
"Hey guys, we're here," Dave said quietly and they clambered out of the truck. Mike looked ahead and saw the faint outline of the bunker ahead of them. He smiled slightly and drew his gun.
"Alright here's the plan, "Dave said quickly, "We're going in quickly and quietly. We'll search the place, grab the gauntlets and then leave. There will most likely be alarms which gives us about ten minutes before an elite shows up if they're not already there."
"Right," Rob agreed.
"Mike, you go with Ryan, Adam, and Joe. I'll take Bono, Larry, and Brad. Rob and Tak, you guys stay with the truck so we can make a quick getaway."
"No problem," Tak said and he and Rob headed back into the truck.
"Make sure you're all armed," Dave said, "And let's go."
Mike led Ryan, Adam, and Joe up to the bunker while Dave took his group around to the back. Bono had swiped his key card through so they were all set to go in. They had their guns out and headed inside as the other group reached the back. As soon as they stepped in, they were being shot at. Mike ducked and jumped behind a cart as the soldiers inside opened fire. Ryan and Adam had hid on the other side, Joe was next to him. They shot back as alarms began ringing. Mike knew he killed someone but the death tolls were starting to not matter to him. He glanced up and motioned for his team to hurry forward.
"Let's go," he said as they began searching through things. They found ammo, which was definitely helpful because they were running low. Ever since the government had started trying to kill them, they'd been using a lot more ammo. They continued through the base, shooting at the soldiers as they tried to kill them. They heard other yells and assumed that Dave and his group had gotten in. They hurried through the halls and lights were flashing. He heard yells and then Dave appeared with his group.
"Have you found anything yet?"
"Nothing," Mike called back as he saw Brad shoot a soldier running towards them. Larry and Bono were both watching their backs just like Joe and Ryan were for him.
"We're going to clear a path for you guys," Dave said quickly, "You take the last section over there and check for stuff. We'll meet you in the front."
"Ok."
"Remember you have about three minutes until an elite will show up."
"Right," Mike said before motioning for his group to follow him. They hurried through the halls and that's when they heard a helicopter. The elites were here. Mike glanced back at his three other partners.
"Guys, get back," he said quickly, "There's one last room. I'll check it real quick and then meet up. Tell Dave."
"Alright," Ryan said quietly, "Be careful."
"I will," Mike sighed before giving the three of them a quick shove. They hurried off and Mike opened the last room and stared in shock. There were rows of gauntlets hanging on the walls. He hurried forward and grabbed one of the gauntlets off the wall. He saw the small design of a hawk on it. He started grabbing different ones off the walls until the door slammed shut behind him.
"I thought I'd find you here."
He jumped and spun around only to come face to face with Chester Bennington. One of his hands went to his gun but Chester was quicker, taking a step forward and pointing his pistol in his face.
"I don't want to kill you," Chester said quietly as he held the gun to his head, "But I'd love if you'd put down my stuff."
Mike slowly dropped the changers on the ground and Chester smiled before nodding at the gun.
"That too."
His gun fell to the ground and Chester smiled before jerking his arm slightly there was a bang in the room. He felt a small pain in his shoulder and he gasped as he glanced down to see a dart sticking out of his arm. He looked back up at Chester who was casually walking towards him. His vision blurred for a moment and then Chester was back, but closer to him. His body swayed and he felt his legs give out before he landed hard on the ground. His vision left again but this time it didn't come back.
