New character! Ok so this story is going to be extended a few chapters because I need to introduce her perspective of the story. Just wanted to let you know! :)
Dyna
Dear Diary,
Hi everyone, my name is Dyna. I live in Sydney, Australia with my grandma. She's too old now to live by herself, so I decided to move in with her. My grandma needs a wheelchair, and her house is equipped with handicapped-friendly objects. She feels bad about being handicapped, so she tries to do everything by herself. That's why I had to move in with her.
Anyways, I got up extra early so that I could talk to Trena about a few things. Trena was a lady tree that was my only friend. Being a Special, I could only have one friend, a tree. Last night, Grandma talked to me about how I was going to be having a huge role in the most important mission of Treeworld. I needed to consult Trena for more information because Grandma only knew so much.
Let me back track a little bit.
16 years ago. 10 years of age.
Mom and Dad just left. Forever. I don't know if they will ever come back to see me. Being photographers for the National Geographic, they had to travel a lot, and they couldn't bring me anywhere because I had to go to school. These years with them have been hard because I was always staying at Grandma's place when Mom and Dad went on their trips. Now they've given me over to Grandma, and they are probably really happy that they can go on their trips without thinking about me. I heard Grandma call me, so I went to see what was wrong.
"What happened Grandma?"
"Dyna, I know that you are really upset about me adopting you, but I needed to. For one thing, your parents find it difficult to have to take care of you and go on their trips. Don't worry though...they said that they'll visit in between their trips. On the other hand, you are a Special. You-"
"Grandma, don't you mean that I am special not I am a special?"
"No sweetie, I meant what I said. You are a Special. You can communicate with trees. See that large tree over there?"
I looked at the really big fig tree in our front yard. It looked like it was picking at its nails and trying to clean them out...wait...a tree that was moving? That was so weird. I didn't want to stay at Grandma's for the weird trees!
"She is the only Special Tree in our yard. Her name is Trena. In our family, only you and I can talk to Special Trees like Trena. Why don't you go say hi? She's been waiting for the past 2 years to meet you! Oh, I can't wait until you two become friends!"
I went outside to meet Trena. She and I talked for sometime and I realized that she was just like a human, except in tree form. I was so glad that Grandma let me visit her. In a few weeks, we became great friends. I wanted to tell my parents all about Trena.
"Grandma! I need to ask you something!"
"Dyna honey, I'm right here. There's no need for you to yell your head off."
"Grandma, can I show Trena to Mom and Dad?"
Grandma looked uncomfortable. What's wrong with showing Trena to Mom and Dad?
"Honey, I wouldn't suggest it. Your parents can't see her as a Special Tree. All the trees are normal to them. Do you remember when Trena looked like every other tree in our yard? That's because you only recently became a Special. You became one when you were 9 and a half years old."
After that she told me the reason why my parents couldn't see the Special Trees.
Current year. 26 years of age.
As I was saying before, Grandma told me that I would have a Guide to help me with my huge role, and he works with me. I will be working with another man, and helping him fulfill his role as a Special.
That morning, when I went to work, my boss called me in for a conference. He told me that he'll be my Guide, and that the man I was to work with, will be here in a month or so.
"Dyna, your role in this project isn't as important as the other man, but it is extremely important for this project because he needs your help in navigation. Because you live here, it will be easier for you to get him to places, because for all of his Callings, he needs to be in a certain area. You will also helping with the Callings. You won't need any prior training...your grandma has taken care of that already."
"Alright sir. Why do I need navigation skills?"
"You must drive him to remote locations, with the help of Trena, to Call the people for this mission. His tree friend is not as experienced as yours, so Trena has more knowledge to help him."
Well...what an interesting meeting. I didn't even know the name of this man, but I'll be driving around Australia for him to "Call" people.
I went home and I was greeted by my pet bunny, Kyto. My grandma bought it for me for my 12th birthday.
I picked Kyto up and went to my bedroom. While I was climbing the stairs, I was wondering how he got out of his cage, but then I saw Grandma cleaning his cage. I took out Kyto's extra cage from my closet and put him there so that he didn't get lost. I let out a sigh as I flopped onto my bed.
"Grandma, why am I that man's navigator?"
"I don't know honey, but I'll tell you this. The Navigator's job is very important...in fact more important than his role itself. You are his supporter and motivator. You need to make sure that you don't fail because if you do, what will happen to this quest? What will happen to Trena and all the other Special Trees? You are like Samwise and he is like Frodo. What would have happened to Frodo, if Samwise didn't say anything to Frodo when Frodo was influenced by the ring?"
My Grandma had to bring up Lord of the Rings. She knows how much I love it and tries to use that to motivate me to do something. She can somehow find ways to connect Lord of the Rings to just about anything that happens in my life.
I sighed and replied, " All right Grandma. I won't let this quest go to waste." With that, I went downstairs to start preparing dinner.
