"Abby, stop staring at it. It doesn't seem to be going away any time soon." I wait, arms folded, for her to come back to reality, or whatever this is.
"Sorry Rose! But how are you not just gawking at yours?"
I have to admit it is hard not to just stop and stare at its beauty.
"She's right. That is one of the most beautiful tails that have been created here in Veiled Grotto," says a delicious male voice.
I turn around to see who my odd compliment came from. A merman with a bright yellow tale and earthy brown scales scattered around floats a few feet away. He is strong looking and very tan. His hair is almost as yellow as his tale and I can see his eyes are a piercing emerald green. He is also waiting for some sort of response from me.
"How many tails have you seen?" I ask still staring at his beauty.
"Enough to know that what I just said is true," he replies with a smirk.
What was that supposed to mean? There are more? Abby is swimming toward him and stops in front of him obviously showing off her beauty.
"I'm Abby, and this is Rose," she says waving a hand in my direction. Leave it to Abby to hit on a hot merman the second she meets him.
"Hello. I'm Finnian," he says as he bows slightly to her, "Everyone calls me Finn though."
I snort as I see him swim towards me.
"Do you find that funny Rose?" he questions taking my hand.
I stutter surprised at him when he leans down to kiss it. "Y-You don't think Finn is a-a funny name for a um...mermaid?" God, I sound so stupid.
He chuckles lightly and comes back with "I think it's ironic. Also, I'm a merman. And I didn't laugh at your name matching the color of your tail. Did I?"
I stare blankly at him and he winks at me making my stomach do twenty flips on the inside. I hear Abby sigh and a gust of wind sends me backwards into a swarm of fish. I look around confused as I hear Finn laugh with delight. His laugh was like melted chocolate.
"Well, Abby's wasn't hard to find out!" He exclaims pulling me back from the angered school of fish.
"My what? I didn't do anything," she snaps still staring at us with her eyes like daggers.
Cold water rushes around me and I propel myself away from Finn.
"Her power! Every mermaid gets one. it might take a while to figure out what you have, but it looks like Abby took control of hers right away!"
Abby and I stand open mouthed. We get powers? Like super heroes, and what exactly is Abby's?
"What can I do?" Abby asks practically reading my mind.
"You can control the weather!" Finn says smiling wide.
"Like, the temperature and precipitation and stuff like that?" Abby asks getting close to Finn. All of his attention is on her and she is not going to waste it.
"Yes! It seems to be controlled by your emotions, but try to think about it more to create weather that way, and you will have much better control over it." Finn takes a hold of both of her hands and she closes her eyes to make it seem like she was focusing hard. Her body is slowly drifting closer to his until they are touching. I roll my eyes. She has no boundaries.
She smirks and the waters get dark surrounding them. I reach out to touch the puffy substance that engulfs them. It's a cloud underwater. I can't see them any more, but suddenly there is a booming crash and a bolt of light. I hear her whisper as Finn laughs, "A little underwater storm."
