Chapter Five Swim

I wake up to the sound of the waterfall crashing into the lake. I stay sprawled out on the ground for a couple of minutes. I slept so well that I feel ready to do anything. I open my eyes to see an empty towel next to me

"Abby!?" I scream sitting straight up.

"Goodness, calm down Rose. I just got our food from the Jeep." Abby looks at me as if I was crazy. I probably look like it, but I didn't know if she had slept walked out of the cave or into the lake and drowned.

"Here, eat some breakfast," she says handing me dry cereal and some warm juice.

"This place is so warm that we have warm juice. Did all of the ice melt in the cooler?"

"Yep."

"Shoot. Oh well," I remark standing up, "shall we swim?"

Rolling her eyes at me, Abby stands up and we both walk to the lake. We had slept in our swim suits since it was warm enough. As I run my hands through my hair to smooth it out, I stop. I run through it again just to make sure.

"Abby how long is my hair? Has it been this long and I haven't noticed?"

"Woah! No, is was at your chin yesterday. Now it's touching your shoulders! Creepy."

I can't believe it. Why did it grow so quickly? I haven't done anything different with it or changed shampoos. But I am not going to waste time thinking about my hair. I shrug and we start towards the lake again.

We smile stepping into the water.

"Mmmmm. Still warm," Abby sighs.

It is. I walk in further until the water is touching my chin. Abby swims to my side in seconds.

"Ready to swim?" I ask excitedly.

"How far are we going? I don't want to go too far. We don't know what is out there or how deep it is," Abby worries.

"Okay, fine. We will swim for five minutes straight out and then come back. Is that all right?" I really want to go out further. This place was so mysterious and I need to explore as much of it as I can.

"Yes, that is a good length for today"

I laugh at her uncertainty and turn to start swimming. We are going straight for the waterfall. Going around it would be easier but what fun is easy? I want to see how it feels to go under it anyway. All of a sudden Abby splashes passed me.

"I'm going to touch it first!" She says through a mouthful of water.

That's not going to happen. I kick my legs harder and catch up with her. We are laughing at each other as we both reach the waterfall at the same time. without wasting a second we grab each others hands and swim under together.

We get one look at the other side of the waterfall before we go unconscious.
