"On second thought I'll stay!" Guilt giggled and walked back to the living room, clawing her way back onto the ceiling.
"Are you still going?" Jeff asked Clockwork with a serious expression on his mutilated face to which Clockwork nodded.
She had a killer headache and would do anything to get away from the loud house and get some fresh air. Smile barked with excitement as he bounded outside, the lead in Jeff's hand as he held the dog back easily, like he'd done it a million times over.
Jeff began walking at a slow pace to enjoy the feeling of the outdoors, he had nothing on him it seemed. No form of defence which was strange. He of all people should know that this world was cruel should he not? Clockwork however was aware of how dangerous this was, a knife in her boot one at each of her sides one in the back of her pants covered by her jacket and one in each jacket pocket. She was always ready for the unexpected.
Once the had successfully made it far enough away from the mansion, Jeff released Smile dog from the dented chain lead and allowed him to run free, every so often throwing a stick into the woods and watching Smile gallop after it seemingly returning with a slightly larger stick than before.
Jeff wasn't the type to talk often, if he spoke it was sarcasm or rarely something intellectual. Small conversation was more his type than deep talks about God knows what.Silence
"Hey Jeff, how do you blink? You know after the whole eyelid incident" Clockwork spoke.
Silence
"I don't." Jeff finished.
Clockwork sighed in frustration, she wanted to know more about the boy she had learned about in the newspaper. The boy who murdered his family in there sleep. The boy who burned out his eyelids, the boy who cut an everlasting smile into his face, the boy who's face was bleached white. She wanted to know what drove him insane. She wanted to know what broke him.
"What do you regret most about your life?" Jeff asked causing Clockwork to snap out of her daydream.
"I guess I regret destroying the place that once I called home" Clockwork shrugged it off. "What about you?"
"Not doing it sooner." Jeff added. It was true he greatly regretted not killing them sooner, then most of his life wouldn't have happened.
"What's one thing you'll miss from your old life" Jeff asked, surprisingly talkative all of a sudden.
"I had a stuffed giraffe" Clockwork admitted, she could have sworn she heard a ruffle of leaves but she played it off as Smile looking for a stick and dismissed the cause.
"I'll miss their smiles" Jeff sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He was reminiscing, this was why he was suddenly talkative, he wanted to take his mind off it.
"Life goes on" Clockwork huffed. "Life goes on."
