Janyi came to bid us farewell before heading to Acratia. The council was sending an army to stall any attempts on the Eri and to scout what had happened with Hiruk. He had escaped, of that we were all sure. But why he was waiting before attacking made me nervous.

I looked over in the distance and saw the approaching storm clouds, making me grunt angrily. The sun was soon blocked out by a haze of gray, our moods following suit.

“Just take them straight to Lumendi, Septa. Don’t stop. Time doesn’t seem to be on our side.” Janyi said as we climbed onto Septa’s back. “Stay safe.” She added.

“I will let no harm fall upon my passengers, Janyi. Do not worry.”

“I meant you as well. Hiruk is ruthless. He will stop at nothing to destroy Carina and all who follow her.”

“I know. You be safe as well. You are flying into a dangerous area.”

“Isn’t she going to Acratia?” I asked. I knew gaining the Eri was dangerous, but was the place itself something to be cautious of?

“No, young one. I am to fly to the Hireim mountains. I will visit the dwarven forge to see what they know. They are the closest to the mountain, after all.” Janyi answered me. Her voice was calm, but I could see the fear behind her eyes.

“He may have already destroyed the forge, Janyi. You can’t possibly believe that this is a good idea?” Caius said, his expression grim.

“I will not know until I go. Someone must. Do not worry for me though. You must go visit your father, and then hurry to Acratia. We are counting on you, Carina.”

I nodded, unsure of how else to answer. The last thing I wanted was to push myself into another panic attack. I jumped at the sound of thunder and cringed as a torrential downpour rained upon our heads. I clutched onto Caius as Septa’s great wings pushed down, lifting us into the air. Soon, Janyi disappeared in the rain and we were heading south to Lumendi.

Once we escaped the rain, I let my thoughts wander to distract me from the uncomfortable feeling of wet clothes clinging to my skin. I tried my best not to shiver, but I couldn’t help it. Our high altitude made it colder and I feared if we didn’t get dry I would be sick before we landed. Caius noticed and asked if I wanted him to stop. I shook my head, and replied through chattering teeth, “W-w-we have to m-make it th-there f-f-first.” He opened his mouth to argue, but I shook my head and pointed forward. We could not stop.

Both Caius and Septa seemed unaffected by the cold wet, and Alume was safe in my pack. I was the only one who seemed to be suffering quietly, feeling feverish when darkness set in and we came upon Lumendi.

I felt weak. Not just in the sense that I was ill, but that I couldn’t even fight a simple thing as hypothermia. My muscles were unresponsive; I was dizzy, nauseous, and shaking so badly that my body hurt. All I wanted was to sleep, but I knew that I shouldn’t. I needed to stay awake. I had to speak with my father.

My eyes were closed, but I could hear voices discussing me. “She is very warm, we must get her some water. We have the healer over in this cottage, he will see to her.” A soft woman’s voice spoke, not too far in front of me.

“Will she be all right? We’re here to see her father, he is a seer.” Caius’s voice came from behind me. He must’ve been the one carrying me to wherever this healer was.
