Brianna walked through the empty hallways of her school with her arms wrapped around herself. The cold air nipped at her skin. She pulled at her long shirt sleeves to cover her hands, desperately in need of a jacket. She couldn't believe she let that idiot talk her into to doing this. That's why she didn't do friendships and now here she was, facing the consequences of making a friend.

Where even was he?

Sneaking past the security was not an easy task, they almost caught her but she outrun them, but at the cost of her jacket which now hung from the fence she had to climb. They could totally trace this back to her now, so a lifelong detention was on her way, well if she didn't die of cold before that is.

Just as she was beginning to think of a 100 ways to kill her friend her phone vibrated in her pocket. She quickly pulled it out and answered without looking at the caller ID, she didn't need to.

"Where the hell are you?" She growled into the phone and continued without waiting for his reply, "Do you have any idea how long I have been waiting in the stupid hallway of this stupid school? I almost got caught. Heck I am as well as caught because now they probably have my stupid jacket, and now I'm freezing and I could die, oh but I am going to kill you first. WHERE. ARE. YOU?" She completed in a breath.

There was a moment of silence on the other line, even the hallway was quiet now, maybe the guards gave up.

"Um, I was just wondering if Katherine was around, but it's probably the wrong number, sorry, have a good night" a small voice said from the other end and immediately hung up.

Great she thought to herself, now not only she made a complete fool of herself, but a stranger also knew that she broke into a school. Could this night get any worse?

Sighing she leaned against the wall and stared at her phone for a moment before messaging him. She couldn't stay mad for long, she knew he needed her and so when her phone beeped with a reply she wasted no time and rushed to meet him.

That's what friends do right? She thought to herself as she climbed up the stairs.

--

He sat at the edge of the roof, the cold wind blowing softly against him. He let out slow breath as he recalled what happened back at his place a few hours ago, he needed to get away from them, so he did.

He stupidly without a thought asked her to come to the school at the middle of the night, she didn't want to at first but he somehow managed to talk her into doing it. He just needed someone to talk to but now he wasn't very sure if that was a good idea.

His phone beeped, signalling that he had a new message.

Brianna : Where tf are you?

He winced and then smiled to himself after reading the message. Boy she must be angry. He immediately replied that he was on the roof and went back to staring at the stars.

Minutes later he felt her presence besides him. He knew she would come, she was a good friend. He couldn't get why she was so repelled by the idea of being someone's friend or someone's anything for all that matters. She liked being alone, he knew that and respected that too and that's why they hardly hung out together. He hated that, she was his only true friend.

He looked at her and smiled big "You came!" He cheered and pulled her in for a hug. She rolled her eyes at that and awkwardly patted his back. "There, there" she said not knowing what to say. He sounded a bit off on the phone earlier, and she didn't want to upset him any further so she didn't push him away like she usually would.

She felt him shaking as he pulled away slightly, " 'There, there'? Really?" He asked in between laughter. She huffed in annoyance and pushed him away fully. Deciding to ignore the urge to flip him off, she looked at him, to see if he was okay.

He stopped laughing when he noticed her looking at him with concern.

"What's wrong Dylan? You sounded a bit off on the phone earlier" She asked carefully.

"Nothing at all" he smiled back at her. She sighed and understood that she would have to try a little harder to know what's been bothering him.

"I thought we were friends" she said dragging the 's' and making a pathetic effort to pout.

Dylan looked at her face for a moment and then burst out laughing, she huffed in response but managed to crack a smile nonetheless, soon she was laughing with him too.

After their laughter died down, Dylan laid down on his back, facing the stars and closed his eyes letting out a sigh.

"Seriously though, what's wrong?" She tried again.

"Really nothing to worry about" he said looking at her and then closing his eyes again, trying to capture the moment. He didn't deny it, it was nothing to worry about, well not yet anyways.

"Really?" She asked slowly.

"Yes kitten." He said without opening his eyes. He felt her hit his arm, he opened an eye to see that Brianna was giving him a look.

"I told you to stop calling me that!" She grumbled in annoyance.

He just cracked a smile and closed his eyes again. A peaceful silence surrounded them. He felt Brianna lie down next to him.

"Why am I even here" she grumbled moodily, but he knew she didn't mean that and she knew that too.

"Because I'm your best friend" he said, opening his eyes and turning to face her

"Now now, Don't flatter yourself." she laughed heartily.

"Oh we both know that's true, don't even deny it" he smirked.

"Whatever" she laughed again. She didn't deny it.

He looked at her for a little more time and she did the same. They just stared at each other for minutes before he let out a sigh and closed his eyes, trying to capture her image forever, this could very well be the last time that he would be seeing her.
