The Ghosts (Poem)

Walking home alone at night,
I have that common fright.
Shadows follow me as I go,
The footsteps seem to multiply.

Clutching my arms around me,
I walk faster.
I turn my head around to see and sigh when I find an empty street.

Even now the footsteps echo in my mind and I'm still paranoid.
Scarred for life with their insights
About what happens when you walk alone at night.

The prejudicial ghosts haunt me in my sleep.
But often I find myself thinking
Probably, the ghosts were just me.
