“I think we might have been deceived in regards to our ancestry, ‘cause you and Mother had to’ve been cut from the same cloth!”

Karolinna complained loudly as she folded her cloak and dropped it in the bag by her feet as her friend followed her every move with questioning eyes. She let out a dramatic, exasperated sigh, gave him a dirty look and went to retrieve her shoes from beneath her desk. Villahr shot her a smug smile and watched the blonde intently.

“Why do you say that?” he asked, noting a faint clinking noise as the faelna kicked her boots under the bed along with her bag. Karolinna was quick to respond with obvious discontentment which pushed the thought temporarily from his mind.

“You’re such a kill-joy!” she said bluntly. “I’m just trying to have a little fun.”

Villahr swiped his tongue sharply along the bottom of one of his retracted canines producing a resound clicking noise from the slight suction.

“You recall what happened the last time you wanted to have ‘a little fun’?” Villahr watched as the expression on Karolinna’s face went from frustrated to annoyed with little effort.

“That was one time. Give it a rest would you?”

Reaching for the hem of her shirt, Karolinna removed the first layer.

“Hah!” The male scoffed, “Once? Really Kar?” Villahr’s mind flashed pictures like an old projector in chronological succession of various men and women his friend had bedded over the years. They were either soaked in their own vitality or covered in bruises from rough handling. Many were also littered in bites, making Karolinna’s presence extremely evident over every bit of each fleshy canvas.

“You act as though they were of significance, Lahr. They’re just humans. Disposable.” Pulling a second long-sleeved shirt up over her head, Karolinna paused to pat down her hair and soon it was immaculate again.

“I’m not fond of them either, Karolinna. In fact, some of them absolutely repulse me. But you must know there are those who find the mortal lives to be of great importance. As yours is to me,” exclaimed Villahr plainly. Not all air-breathers prove cause that they need to be exterminated; a matter he clearly disagreed on with his espoused family.

Karolinna looked as though she might laugh — one of those ‘throw your head back to the sky, choke on your own tongue’ type laughs.

“The only ones who give a shit are others of their kind,” she said. “Yes, they make for wonderful entertainment and pleasure on occasion, but their well-being is not something I feel the need to concern myself with, and neither should you. Think of them as over-priced toys. I do.”

There was no getting through to her. Villahr rolled his eyes and dropped his head to face his lap for a few beats before looking back to the disturbed faelna. She had since removed her slacks, and was now standing before her dresser in search for something more comfortable.

Nearly as bare as the day she was born, with only a few strips of material over her chest and nether regions to say otherwise, Karolinna was practically oblivious or just tremendously unguarded to her virtual nakedness.

“So. Where did you sneak off to this time?” Flinging the ponytail packed full of long silken strands of snow-white and silver, or his shoulder, Villahr rose from the bed and came up behind Karolinna. Her entire body visibly tensed at his question.

Villahr moved as if on air, and if she had not been on high alert to his movements behind her, she may not have noticed he’d even gotten to his feet.

“I told you,” she answered unobliged. The muscles in her stomach flinched when Villahr came to a stop behind her and she could feel the eat of his body scorch the boundaries of her personal space. She couldn’t really distinguish the flutter in her belly to be either alarm or excitement as the other vici’s hands cupped her hips. They stayed there a few agonizing seconds, toying with the frill of her panties above her thigh, then extended past her to reach into the open drawer.
