She hadn’t even made the incision yet and already Karolinna’s face was twisted in pain as the water rushing the faucet made contact with her flesh. It was brash and as cold as she could make it, but it did very little to sooth the burn or quench the fire dancing along the surface like rain drops pelting the pavement; dry from a long summer.

The customized infradai which she had sworn she would only use in emergencies was tight between her teeth, and her gums throbbed on either side of her lateral and central incisors where her supernatural canines were threatening to jab through, as if they could fix the problem.

Karolinna let the small basin fill to the top before turning the tap to the off position and plunging her entire limb into the icy, clear liquid; almost crying out at the wash of both stinging and relief that came over her when it was fully submersed.

Prodding lightly at the skin with her free hand, the faelna noted the dark grey colour. Hardly an hour ago it was a smokey sort of cobalt.

She hadn’t planned to go out there, and to be honest she wasn’t exactly sure she wanted to. It had been a tiresome day, and for the first time in weeks Karolinna had nothing else planned but to go home, wash away evidence of mortal filth, climb into bed and sleep the next few days off. But as soon as she locked up and her clickity black heels hit the sidewalk, her feet seemed to travel of their own accord. Like a plane, thousands of feet in the air, where she was simply a passenger.

Since this was not in the days to-do list, Karolinna wasn’t exactly dressed for the weather. She wore a white skirt and blouse number — the skirt barely covering her thighs, the blouse sleeves sheer, from the shoulder to her cuffs — and a pair of her stilettos that added an extra three inches she certainly did not need. Pulled back in a bun, her hair was tied messily together with a jet-black ribbon, wisps of flaxen hanging from it and about her face in just the right way that somehow she managed to pull it off without distracting from her beauty.

She started off in the right direction. From a certain distance the estate almost appeared abandoned, due to the fact that there was no movement in the gardens or lights in the windows. Somewhere along the line Karolinna had changed course, that much was perfectly clear, by the full body sting and her saddened limb. As the seconds passed it was increasingly resembling the shade of black poultry — and that was a very bad thing.

The edge of her blouse was quickly soaking up water, as Karolinna had managed to catch it on the sink ledge in a tear to remove her clothing. The colourless camisole — that in the right light was almost see-through — only gripped to one of her shoulders, the other strap having slid down in her haste.

She hardly notices the loud thudding anymore, as she continues to send a plethora of magical currents to the cause of the ruckus. Pushing on the back of a door with the full fledged strength of an adult pachyderm, Karolinna’s head swirled with almost unfamiliar pressure.

Sweat was beading and rolling down her face. She had never exerted this much energy before, never had to; and was starting to regret ignoring her spell studies and endurance exercises so frequently.

Npe eh roo, Aarolinn!”

On the other side of the solid oak barrier, Villahr in turn used all the physical and mental strength he could muster. In that moment the elna cursed his lineage, as the fact that he was not a pure blood gave him a severe disadvantage against her.

His stubbornness he withheld since he was a child ensured that he knew more than his adoptive sibling but nothing would change the fact that she would always be stronger no matter how little she practiced the art.

Using both his conscious energy and his complete upper body strength, Villahr slammed his shoulder hard against the door repeatedly while simultaneously calling out Karolinna’s name as loud as his lungs would allow. He paid no mind to the cluster of maiden’s that had gathered at the end of the hall, with their curious ears and supply carts. He didn’t care in that moment that the entire block could probably hear him, and it was fortunate for the hauled up blonde that neither Kayya or Danah were in the building. He continued to bellow, and Karolinna continued to push against him.
