Chapter 33: A new beginning

~Bella's POV~

The next day I wake up late to find myself all alone but there's a note from Bruno saying that he's taken Alia to school, and is dropping Kailani off at Presley's so I phone him.

"Why are you dropping Kailani at Presley's?"

"So you can rest."

"Well I'm up now so if you still have her, bring her home."

"I don't, and Presley is taking her to the beach."

"I guess it would be nice for us to have some time together."

"Sorry, Bella, I'm going to be out for the day."

He hangs up before I can ask him where he's going but I just shrug it off and decide to go to the gym while I've got the chance. I haven't been for a while, and the doctor said light exercise will be good for me.

I take it easy, doing an hour on the machines before I go for a swim which eases the pain.

On the way home, I see Bruno alone in the pub so I pull over and pick up my phone.

"Hey, I've just been to the gym, wanna meet for lunch?"

"Sorry, I'm at Phil's working on a song with him and Ari."

I stay calm.

"Okay, I'll see you at home."

I hang up and start to cry before I drive home.

As soon as I pull up outside our house, my phone rings - it's Dee.

"Hey sweetie!" I say.

"Bella, what's wrong?" she asks, picking up on my emotion-filled voice.

"Oh, it's Bruno. He's lying to me again."

"Yeah, Jack's been the same but you just have to give him time. He saw us get raped and was forced to rape me himself."

"Don't remind me."

"I even caught Jack kissing another girl but I haven't told him."

"You sound okay with this," I say with surprise.

"It's me he comes home to at night, Bella. He keeps telling me he loves me but he can't be close to me. If being with other girls makes him feel better, what can I do. I love him and don't want to lose him."

I think about this, and understand but I know I wouldn't be able to accept that if Bruno was doing the same thing.

"Anyway," she says. "I called to see if you wanted some company at the weekend. Jack suggested we get away and I think he wants to talk to Bruno about what happened."

"I'd love to have you over for a couple of days, sis. Can't wait to see that nephew of mine again."

"Speaking of which, I gotta feed him so see you at the weekend."

"Love you, Dee."

"Love you too."

She hangs up so I put my phone away and go into the house.

I'm washing up the dishes when Bruno comes in with the girls. Alia runs into her bedroom, and he puts Kailani into her swing across the kitchen before he sits down and grabs the paper without saying a word.

"How did the song writing go?" I ask.

"Huh! Oh, it was okay."

"I phoned Ari earlier because you weren't answering your phone," I lie.
