Chapter 36: The start of Forever

"Okay, action!", Scott says

I walk in to find Bruno packing a suitcase. He looks at me.

"You're packing," I say.
"Orders."
"What kind of orders?"
"The top secret kind," he sighs.
"The dangerous kind. I can't find Danny."
"Is that why you're here? Looking for Danny? Probably saying goodbye to his squadron. We've been assigned to Doolittle."

I pick up the uniform trousers and begin to fold them before putting them into the case.
"I wasn't looking for Danny."

We look at each other.
"I couldn't have you go away without you understanding something."
"Yeah. Well, you don't have to explain anything to me."
"I do, because you're acting like I didn't love you."

He closes the case and stands, picking it up at the same time.
"Evelyn, loving you kept me alive."

He goes out the door and I follow him. He puts his bag into the cab and walks a few feet away. I follow and then he stops and turns.

"I should've died over there. When I was in that water, I made a deal with God. I told him I was sorry. I told him that I knew I'd been a fool for leaving you... trying to go over there and be a hero... and I promised I'd never ask for anything again... if I could just see you one more time."

He starts welling up.

"And you know what? It was worth it. You kept me alive, Evelyn. You brought me home. So I'm gonna stand by my end of the deal. I'm gonna walk away. And I won't ask you for anything. But I just want to know why. Just tell me that, will you, please? Just tell me why?"
"Rafe, I'm pregnant."

I turn away.

"Oh, my hell."

He turns his whole body away.

"I didn't even know until the day you turned up alive. And then all this happened. I haven't told Danny."

He looks at me.

"I don't want him to know," I continue.

He turns away from me again.

"All he needs to think about is how to do this mission and get back alive."

Bruno nods slightly.

"Rafe, all I ever wanted was for us to have a home, grow old together, but life never asked me what I wanted. Now. I'm gonna give Danny my whole heart... but I don't think I'll ever look at another sunset without thinking of you. I'll love you my whole life."

I turn and walk away.

Scott and the crew then show us to the last area where I'm told it's the scene where Danny is brought home in a coffin so I begin to act it out.

I start by the fence and watch as the other soldiers come off the plane and are greeted by loved one. I watch as Bruno appears and I smile but that disappears when he turns and helps bring the coffin out.

Four soldiers, including Bruno get it down the steps and I go over and place my hand on the jacket that's on the coffin. I look at Bruno and we embrace.

"Thank you for such a wonderful day," I say.
"You're worth it," he says.
"I love you."
"I love you too."

We start laughing and look around us.

The coffin in put on the ground and all the actors clap.

"Wow, I'm impressed," Scott smiles. "You must really know that film. Usually it takes several attempts to get a good video with other couples."
"Thank you, Scott."
"We have your address so once we've sorted the video, we'll send it."

He and the other actors start to pack up and leave.

"Luke," I say and he stops and turns.
"Thanks."
"You're welcome, Bella."

I turn to Bruno and we head away from the set and towards the beach which wasn't very far thank goodness.

"This was the perfect Anniversary Vacation", I say to Bruno
He kisses my head."I'm glad you like it...there's something I forgot to give you", He says as we stop on the beach
"What?", I ask

He pulls out two boxes. A wide square one and a long rectangular one.

"Which do you want first?", He asks
"Um, the square", I say

He opens it and it was a charm bracelet with many beautiful charms. There was a car, a Hawaiian flower,a letter B, a pair of baby feet with the number 1 one them, our wedding date, Another pair of baby feet but this with the number 2 on it, and a Heart that says B&B forever. I felt myself tremble.

"The car represent the first time we met...when I hit your car, the B represent the first gift I gave you, the flower represent our first date at the restaurant,the baby feet obviously represents Alia and Kailani, the date is our wedding date, and the heart means that we're gonna last forever and always", he says

I felt the tears come in and I was so overwhelmed by him. He put the bracelet on my wrist and pulls out the other box. He opens it and it was a necklace that had a heart and a key.

"You have the key to my heart. You can count on me whenever you need me, I will catch a grenade for you"

I start to laugh and he laughs too.

"It will rain if I never knew you, the best thing was marrying you, when we're not together I'm talking to the moon trying to get to you, all these young wild girls made a mess of me but you fixed me and loved me like the person I've been searching for all my life, there are beautiful girls all over the world I could be chasing but my time would be wasting because they got nothing on you baby squirrel, Bella I love you with every bone in my body and every cell in my body. Your amazing just the way you are.", He says

I wipe my tears and just hug him tightly.

"I love you babe", I say
"I love you too", he says
"And that was the corniest speech ever", I laugh
He laughs."but it was just for you, only for you, and forever yours.", He says

We hug tightly watching the sunset...

I can tell that this was the start of something new.

I guess it was meant to be like Presley said. I was meant to be with him and he was meant to be with me...

Forever and always.
