Dear Diary,
Isolation. Everybody feels it at some point in their lives, but it is normally a short time. I have been isolated for so long now, I have almost forgotten what real life is like, but I do know, and I hope, I will get it back one day. "Ella! It's Mum, here's your dinner," Ella stood up from her chair at her desk and walked to her door. She heard the bolt on the other side of the door slide free. As the door slowly opened, she was met by her Mum with a tray of food. She took the tray from her. As she turned, she heard the door close and lock behind her.
Ella sat on her bed. In this room, she had everything she owned; loads of books she had read repeatedly, loads of drawing and art sets, her bed, her desk and 2 doors, one leading to her bathroom, and one leading to a hallway. However, the latter always remained locked. Not quite the room of an ordinary 15-year-old girl.
Ella looked around her room, and then looked at the food her Mum gave her, but she was not hungry. As she pushed the tray away, she heard the doorbell ring. Running to the window to see who it was, she could hear her dad talking to the visitor. "Hello again," she heard her Dad's voice. "How is she? Can I please see her?" "I'm afraid not. She is still very weak," her Dad replied, "I'll tell her you stopped by." "Thank you again, Mr Ford." "Not at all," Ella heard her Dad close the door and she saw the visitor walking down the path. A tear fell from her eye. The boy turned and looked up, she quickly ducked out of sight, stopping him from seeing her; it was not safe.
As she sat with her back against the wall, a voice came to her door, saying, "Ella, sweetheart?" "Yes, Dad?" "Ethan has just been at the door." "I know, Dad," she replied, "I heard." "I'm sorry, Ella," he murmured, "but, you know, it's for the best." "I know, Dad." As the room fell silent, Ella placed her hand over her heart, stretched out her hand towards the bookshelf and closed her eyes. A small, brown book floated from the shelf and flew into Ella's open hand. Opening her eyes, she opened the book. It was a photo album, and it was full of photos with her happy. She had almost forgotten what happy feels like, but in all of these pictures, she was smiling. There was one of her and her mum and dad. Another was her and Ethan that almost made her smile. The next was Ella and her sister Anna. Ella slammed the book shut and started to think.
Anna, her twin sister, was the normal daughter. You see, none in the family knew how or why, but Ella was born with magic. At first, it was just small things, like making objects move. However, as she got older, it got worse. Before the last few months, when her mum and dad isolated her from the world, Ella could control most of her abilities. But when her life changed, she lost control completely. "Ella and Anna, you're going to be late for school if you don't leave now!" "OK, Mum, nearly ready," Ella shouted; Anna was just coming down the stairs. As she reached the coat hooks by the front door, Ella came running down the stairs, "Ready." "Ella! You are always on the last minute!" Her mum scolded. "I know, but I like being on my toes." "Go! Both of you or you'll be late." "Bye Mum." They both said. Ella and Anna walked side by side to the bus stop. "So, what classes have you got today, Anna?" Ella asked. "Erm, French, Maths, Science, PE, then double Drama. What about you?" "Oh English, Drama, History, a study period for the RE exam, Maths, then Science," Ella answered. "You'll be fine studying; RE is one of the three classes you actually pay attention in." "Oi! Don't start, you!" She joked. Ella looked up to see the bus turn the corner. As it did, she also saw a boy starting to run towards her. She guessed that he wanted the bus, so as it pulled up, she asked the driver to wait for him; he gave her a weird look. So, Ella got her fare out really slowly so that the boy had enough time to reach the bus. As her ticket was printing, she heard sharp breathing behind her. She walked to the seat that Anna had chosen and turned her head to see a tall boy with brown hair the same shade as her own. He was wearing a brown leather jacket, but, under it, she could see he had the crest of her school.
