Claire's POV
Not only did I have no clue where Atticus's study was, but all the rooms looked the same! Literally, the halls had the same plush carpeting, the same dark wooden doors, the same windows exactly six feet apart-it was all just similar! When I entered an empty room for the fifth time in a row was when I decided to find help.
I saw a fragile looking girl carrying a pile of grey towels, seemingly lost staring outside as she walked in the halls. It's a maid! I almost wanted to kneel at her feet, that's how happy I was to see her.
"Hey!" I exclaimed, eyes wide in joy. She looked a bit frightened, but reluctantly waved.
"Hello..." She smiled politely. I had a feeling she was wary of people, so I just tried to make the encounter quick.
"Do you know the direction of Atticus's study?" I questioned. Her finger flicked down the hall.
"...last door on the left." She said. She eyed me as I was about to walk down the hall.
"May I ask why you want to enter King Atticus's study?" She questions as my ex girlfriend/crush radar goes off. I stare at her, and then I narrow my eyes at her. I puff out my chest, and take three steps forward. She looks flabbergasted as she takes a step back, well, stumbles a step back.
Then, with the nastiest voice I can conjure up, I squint one eye and widen the other and say-
"What's it to ya?" I would spit like a sailor from those old time movies, but the plush carpeting looks so expensive, and she already looks like a frightened lamb anyway.
"He-he's not in his study. I was just wondering if you were of the right-" she trembles out, and I find my face go red. I'm angry. Why am I angry? Because, I'm wondering why this girl is questioning my position. I find myself questioning my own position. What am I to Atticus? We haven't really discussed it. This makes me angrier.
"I'm of the right position!" I snap, forgetting about intimidating her with the crazy sailor facade. Did she have a past with Atticus? Is that why she thought she could try to intimidate me? I stared her down as she clutched the grey towels tightly to her chest, shrinking under my searing gaze.
"Are you in any type of relation with Atticus? Do you two have a past? Do you like him?" I shoot questions at her rapidly, and she stutters to answer them.
"I-I-I- he's just my employer!" She scrambles out as I glare. "Nothing else I swear!" Her eyes water a bit. I feel the fire in me die a little bit, and I shoot her a wide grin.
"Okay!" I chirp. "You said his study is the last door on the left?" I ask. She nods her head, still a bit scared, and confused to my mood changes. I nod at her.
"Thanks!" I say, walking down the hall, a little skip in my step.
Maybe I'm getting my period? I don't know, I kind of regret being so mean to her. But I couldn't help it! My bitch bone reflex was too hard to resist. My proper manners were thrown out of those six feet apart perfect windows when she tried to question me about my position! I mean, it's not like I'm queen or anything, but I felt like she thought I was an imposter or something.
She did say that Atticus wasn't in his study, but Valdus told me that he wanted me in his study. So that also raised my suspicion. He clearly asked for my presence. So why did she question me of my position and then claim that he wasn't there? Was she trying to get me away from Atticus?
