•LITTLE BIT OF SPICE IN THIS CHAPTER. YOUVE BEEN WARNED.•
Merlin's POV
Atticus is barking orders at the Royal army, but I can't think. All I hear is the thud of my pulse against my ears. A permanent blush etched onto my face, and I know that I'm doomed. Betrayal isn't something Atticus takes lightly. I know that once this is all over with, and Claire is safe in his arms, Valdus will most likely be skinned. Burned even.
A once high knight, now a lowly traitor.
But I also know that Atticus won't be able to do anything to him. I know that he'll be gone before King Atticus even utters the command to have him killed. If he doesn't want to do it personally.
How does one go from someone's friend, to a traitor? I'm about to find out.
I don't even notice Atticus approaching me until I feel a strong pat on my shoulder. The force almost knocking me on my ass. My head snaps up as I stare at him.
"The portal?" I ask him, and he nods. He seems to be in thought as I start to mutter the words to open the portal to the dimensions. The army is ready to storm into celmira's dimension, velinore. Who am I to stop them, with my troublesome thoughts? My words go stronger, chanting what is needed to split the blue sun in half.
As the two halves separate into the purple clouds, a black hole starts to open up. I can see the many stars peaking from the opening portal, and I grin. It's almost open when we all feel the cold gusts of space. Or the frozen lands.
Some soldiers shiver, whereas some stay as solid as a stone wall. Those are the dedicated ones. The ones that will do anything to get 'queen' Claire back. I wish them all good luck as they start their journey through the purple sky, and into the portal. Their armor enchanted by me, whenever they needed to go through the portal, they could just float there. No problems as they all awkwardly descend into the sky. I almost laugh, seeing bulky werewolf and vampire guards squirm uncomfortably in the magics wake.
Before Atticus releases me, he opens his mouth. All this time he spent thinking, I'm actually curious to know what he has to say. He closes his mouth again and looks stressed.
"Spit it out already." I say, as his head snaps into my direction. I smile sheepishly. "King Atticus." I add slyly.
"Look-" he sighs. "I know you're the most powerful wizard in my army- " he stops and winces.
I stare at him waiting to finish what he's going to say.
"You aren't coming with us." He says. I stare at him as my heart comes a stop.
"What?" I ask, kind of shocked. I mean, I would be a great aspect in this whole 'retrieve the future queen' plan. What is he going on about?
"I'm leaving you behind to watch over Valdus." He finishes, taking a step away from me.
"Wait!" I say as he stops and looks back at me. He raises an arched eyebrow.
"You trust me with Valdus?" I ask, a small smile gracing my lips.
He looks thoughtful for a second before shaking his head.
"Not really,no." He answers, turning away as my smile drops.
He's gone before I even question his motives. He knows. Ofcourse he knows you idiot, Valdus was his best friend. But, he's letting him go. Us go. He didn't directly say it, but I've known him long enough to know when he's giving someone mercy. I turn from the portal as it closes, swallowing the whole army of men and women.
