Chapter Five

(Jonah)

"Mom!" I yelled from our living room. the phone is ringing!"

I could practically feel her being annoyed by me when she shouted, "So answer it!"

"I'm busy!" I yelled again and returned to looking for my wallet. The phone was already on it's fifth ring, and if someone didn't answer it soon, it was going to go to voice mail.

"For heavens sake." she grumbled from the kitchen. "Hello."

Of course, as soon as she answered the phone, I found m wallet under the couch, and since I was nosey, I went to see who she was talking to. "Okay, I'll send it tomorrow." Mom said and wrote something on a sticky note.

"Sending what?" I asked and tried to peek at what she wrote, only to have her push my face away.

"I don't know how long it will take to get there." She continued to ignore me.

"Who Is it." I asked, but she kept ignoring me. "Mom, Mom, Mom."

"What!" she finally got frustrated with me and yelled in my face.

Smiling meekly, I said, "Who are you talking to?"

She sighed and put her head in her hand. "Your sister. I have to mail some of her stuff to her."

"Ohhh, that makes sense." It had been two weeks since Eve, my older sister left to go to university in Edmonton, and my mom wasn't taking it well. She had been irritable since we dropped her off at the airport. "How's she doing."

"Fine." Mom said but wasn't really listening, and Eve would most likely tell me in more detail later. "No I don't think I'll be able to send your book shelf until next week."

"They don't have bookshelves there?" You think if a university had one thing, it would be bookshelves.

Mom waved me off and continues to talk about shopping arrangements. I sat on the table and waited for my ride. Natalie, Milo and I were going to see a Sunday movie, we planned to go out yesterday, but Nat's grandfather came in unexpectedly, so we moved it. Since the movie started in ten minutes, there was no time to walk, and since we were Canadian, we couldn't drive until we were seventeen.

"Your father and Daisy aren't home." I heard mom say at the same time my ride honked from outside. I grabbed all my stuff and was about to run out side, when Mom shoved the phone in my face. "She wants to talk to you."

"I'm about to leave ." I said. "Tell her I'll talk to her later."

Mom went to tell her this, but the phone was shoved in my face once again, as I was putting my shoes on. "Mom, I'm basically out the door."

"She said not to let you leave until you at least said hi."

I rolled my eyes, but gave in and took the stupid phone. "Hi Eve." I said. "Bye Eve, I gotta go."

"Bye bye!" She shouted but I had already given mom the phone back, and had the door open.

I jogged to the car, since my sister already made me late. "Hey Mrs. Andrews." I said to Milo's mother when I jumped in the back seat of her car.

"Hi Jonah." She said and pulled out of the driveway.

Milo was in the front seat, and Natalie was beside me. "What took you so long?" she asked, even though I really didn't take very much time to get out.

"My sister wouldn't let me leave until I talked to her."

Mrs. Andrews laughed, "So what movie are you guys seeing."
