Chapter Eighteen

(Jonah)

The days kept going by. Mom's bithday and thanksgiving got closer and closer. And Milo and Natalie still though there was another girl. At least they stopped bugging me about it, for now anyway.

"You're being stared at." Milo said one day at lunch.

"By who?" I asked and turned around.

"No don't!" he excalimed. Making me jump.

"What is your problem?"

"You have to make it look casual." he said. "Drop your fork and turn to pick it up."

"Why does it matter?" I was starting to lose interst in whoever was staring at me.

"Just do it." he said.

This was pointless, but in order to please him, I pretended to drop my fork so I could turn and pick it up. When I did, I saw that he was right. Across the cafeteria, there was some guy staring at me. I didn't know his name, but I recognized him as a football player. Why he was staring at me, i had no idea.

"Who is he?" Nat asked. She didn't listen to Milo and basically threw subtlety out the window. Anyone could tell who she was staring at.

"I don't know, some football player. " I already moved on and went back to eating mt lunch.

"You know what that means?" She said to Milo. He nodded, but nether of them decided to tell me what they were thinking.

"Okay what does it mean?" I was probably going to regret asking, but curiosity killed the cat i guess.

"He's on the football team." Nat said.

"And?"

"You know who else is on the football team?" Milo said.

"Football players." why couldn't they just get to the point?

"Nolan is on the football team." They both said. Not again.

"You guys never let anything go, do you?"

"This is serious Jonah." Natalie said. "Why else would a memeber of the football team be staring at you?"

"Don't you think if they had something planned, they would have done it by now?"

"A good plot can take a while ti come up with." Milo said. "You are watching your back, right?"

"There is no need to." They were so paranoid. "No one is out for revenge against me."

"Just be careful." Nat pleaded. "I really don't want anything to happen to you."

"Thanks, love you to."

I knew Milo and Natalie were completely off base in thinking Nolan and the football team had it out for now. It was a ridiculous idea, this wasn't some teen sitcom after all. For some reason though, I felt a bit paranoid for the rest of the day. I always felt like someone was watching me. It didn't make sense. I knew no one was going to attempt anything, those two just put crazy ideas in my head. Did I think Nolan was still mead? Yes, but he honestly didn't seem like he had the work ethic to do anything. I doubted he would even care enough. I just had to get it out of my mind.

The next day when Dad was working and Mom was taking Daisy to choir practice, I gave Eve a call to work out the details of Mom's brthday. Her and Daisy loved Mary's idea of redecorating her store, but we hadn't had a chance to discuse it much with Mom being around all the time.

"So I already paid for the new wallpaper you just have to go pick it up tomorrow." Eve said over the phone. "Also get some paint."

"Okay." I agreed and started writing down the things she needed me to do. "What colour?"
