Yay For First Dates!

((Author's Note: I'm sorry for the long wait for the update. If you've read my other story, you'll understand a little bit. If you haven't, please don't read it and get attached. I'll be fine. Don't worry. Also, I can't write kisses and I'm so sorry. Please don't laugh. Also, brief DaveKat mentions. I still don't ship it, tho.))

It had been an anxious week for John.

He'd circled the date of the Date on his calendar and set several reminders on his phone.

He went about the week with a lot of anxiety but acted as relaxed as possible. Karkat was very irritated any time John was near him, so John assumed Dave told him about Dirk and John being a thing now.

Or he was just being his usual self.

Jake and Jade talked to John often during the week.

"So, what do you think you'll do for your date?" Jade asked.

John shrugged, "I don't know, actually. We didn't...discuss that? We just set the date."

"Weird." Jake frowned. "Are you sure you're alright with dating him?"

"Yeah!" John replied quickly. "He's nice! He's smart! He's pretty good looking, I guess! He's brave and tough and cool and a dork and-"

"Yes, I know that." Jake snapped. John fell quiet. "I'm asking if you are alright with dating him because I know for a fact that everyone said 'John is dating Dirk? Mr. No Homo dating Mr. Very Homo? He isn't aromantic?' and all of those other things." Jake folded his arms across his chest. "Are you comfortable with the idea of dating a male, personality aside."

John shifted, "I mean...I don't know. I'm not focusing on that."

"You'd better, because that's actually very important." Jake narrowed his eyes.

John looked away, "...I'm a bit uncomfortable because I used to laugh and make jokes and stuff about others being gay. Now I'm dating a guy, my best friend's brother at that. I'm comfortable with Dirk, though."

Jake's gaze softened and he sat down, "Has it ever occurred to you that you should talk to Dirk or Dave about this?"

John looked up, "Why can't I talk to you about it? You dated him!"

"Our relationship was a disaster. Dirk smothered me and I never mentioned it. I never told him that I didn't like him the way he wanted me to, or the way Jane or Roxy liked him. I'd be the worst person to talk to about this, to be perfectly honest." Jake admitted. John nodded slowly. Jade hugged John.

"We like you anyway, OK? I'm sure your dad would be happy with you dating someone, guy, girl, or other! As long as you like them and they don't hurt you, he'd be happy with them!" she smiled.

John shrugged. He'd never know. No one would know.

Dirk was very nervous about the Date. He only realized the day before the Date that they hadn't actually planned the Date. It just existed as the Date.

He hadn't been dating John a week and had already fucked up.

He spotted Dave walking by and opened the door, grabbed Dave's hand, and yanked him inside.

"Dave, you gotta help me." he spoke calmly.

Dave looked alarmed, "Dirk?!"

"Dave. Now that we've done roll-call, I need your help."

"Why? What's wrong? More nightmares?" he asked, looking around.

"No. Remember when I told you I'd asked John out and he said yes and we set a date?"
