Love Found Her

Chapter 11.

Artemis felt the tears welling in her eyes as she saw Cameron step into the Earth Science room, barely meeting her eyes. She suppressed a sob, not wanting to let everyone see her cry. Could anything get any worse? She had lost the boy she felt for... to something that didn't even make sense, and he wasn't even fighting the rumors. He was giving in to them, something she hated in a person, especially in relationships. It had happened before, when the person believed someone she was with and took those lies and ran with them, leaving her alone, as always.

"Hey girl!" Her good friend, Maya, said as she sat on a stool in the class. She took one look at Artemis's face leaned forward. "What happened?!" she cried, drawing the attention of everyone, including Cameron, who's face was as blank as a newly wiped down whiteboard. Artemis watched as Terrence's gaze landed on her, and it felt like his eyes were burning her back. She sniffled, but pulled herself together. "Cameron believed someone who told him I was all over Terrence at Homecoming." she told Maya blankly, and Maya gasped and shook her head. "Any idea of who it was?" she asked, and Artemis shook her head.

Maya got up with a determined look on her face. "Well, I'm going to find the fuck out even if it kills me. You will not sit here like that. And that's simple." Artemis felt herself smile despite the pressure of heartbreak closing in on her. She watched Maya walk up to Cameron. "Don't tell me she sent you over here." She overheard Cameron say, and her heart almost burst at the hate seemingly dripping from his lips. She covered her face with her long, chestnut brown hair, a habit she'd been doing since middle school when she wanted to disappear.

Five minutes later, Maya walked back over to Artemis with a somber look on her face. "Baby girl, you need to talk to him. " Artemis shook her head. "He wants nothing to do with me." Artemis whispered. Maya sighed. "Artemis, I don't wanna be the person to tell you but.." "What?" Artemis could almost hear her heart pounding inside of her chest. Was she going to say Cam hated her? She almost cried at the thought.
