Chakra in Sanskrit means "wheel." It is said when all of the seven major chakras are perfectly positioned we are in a state of peace and wholeness, and on the path of fulfilling our potential. Those who suffer from depression, anxiety, rage, discontent, or addiction are thought to have unbalanced chakras.
During chakra meditation we focus on healing the energy centers- which can either be hyperactive or underactive. Equilibrium of the energy centers are soothed into their ideal states by means of yoga, crystal healing, intervention from chakra gurus, and other means of holistic and New Age practice.
Meditation, crystal healing, and yoga are excellent recovery strategies to use after rehabilitation to rediscover the spiritual side of yourself, and abate the cravings to use addictive substances. The call of addiction gnaws at those who feel as if they have nothing to offer the universe; they feel hollow, empty, devoid of use, love, and hope. Chakra healing restores your sense of self, and reminds you of your mission on this plane. Whether you believe in destiny or not, is irrelevant. Everyone has something to accomplish in their lives. Preordained, or chosen, we must remember to follow our callings relentlessly, lest we lose ourselves in the perils of addiction and inner turmoil. Tending to neglected energy centers may seem odd to you at first, if you have never paid great attention to sensing energy flow, or communicating deliberately with your chakras, but in time, you will learn how to detect imbalances in your subtle bodies.
Typically, when we are out of synch with the environments around us, it is assured something is not quite right inwardly. Turning to other means of emotional satiation are only temporary fixes; eventually the high becomes a necessary mistress to maintain normalcy, and develops other physical and psychological disorders, typically bolstering the fears, anxieties, and depression they were meant to save you from. When you mend indwelling unrest, you resolve the need to seek solace elsewhere. If you do not like the circumstances of your life today, you can fix them- but only if you fix you. The mantra I have adopted for myself is, "Fix the inside, and the outside will follow." Sometimes I say this to myself countless times a day- sometimes none.
Chakra healing can help you achieve your goals, and become more self-aware, thus helping you see through the sometimes muddled roads after recovery. Many use religion to help keep sobriety in toe; for those who do not resonate with an overly religious approach to recovery, chakra meditation and crystal healing are healthy alternatives to the religious bent, because meditation and chakra balancing are intensely spiritual- without the necessity of prayer or submission to a higher being. Of course, the healing art lends itself well either way- making them ideal for people subscribing to either school of thought.
According to Michelle Fondin, there are seven major energy centers corresponding to "massive nerve centers in the body." Each of these energy spheres, or chakras, influence nerves in ruling over each of our critical organs. When blockages in energy occur, we experience sickness, disease, or emotional unrest. Chakra healing balances any under or overactive centers for physical, spiritual, and emotional health. The names of all seven are the Root Chakra, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye, and Crown.
Progressing from the ground up is the "proper" way to harmonize the chakras. The idea being: creating a strong foundation is essential to guide higher planes of thought and emotion with higher vibrational chakras (think the Third Eye and Crown specifically). But as I mentioned earlier, there is no definitive "right or wrong" way to explore holistic healing. Trusting your intuition first and foremost is critical to glean every benefit from practicing with nature. If after reading the profiles of the chakra centers you know your heart chakra is underactive, take measures to remedy the heart center- and then work on the rest.
