Brittany Houser always got her way. Always. She would not have some scholarship kid stand in the way of her and her future boyfriend.

"So, Dick." Brittany twirled her hair on her finger. "Matthew has a party on tonight...I was wondering if you wanted to come with me?" She giggled. Barbara, whose locker was right next to Dick's, rolled her eyes and pretended to rearrange her books.
"I can't, Britt. Babs and I have this...thing." He said. "Right?" Barbara closed her locker as non-chalantly as possible.
"What? Oh, right...the thing." They were both talking about patrol. Or rather, upgrading their cycles in the cave, since crime was particularly quiet this week.
"Oh, well, maybe we can catch that midnight screening of the new Hunger Games movie on Sunday?" Brittany suggested.
"Another thing." Dick said. He didn't apologize. He couldn't think of someone he wanted to hang out with the least in the whole school than Brittany.
"That New Year's Gala my dad's throwing?" She tried.
"Bruce's having his own." Dick excused.
"Fine. If you don't want to have a relationship then-"
"I don't, Brittany." He said coldly. "Not with you."

Dick scanned the mass of people for Barbara, but he saw no one.
"Look for someone Boy Wonder?" A voice said behind him. He flipped around to see Barbara in a glittery sliver dress that went to just above her knees, and silver heels that looked solid glitter. Her hair was scraped to the side in waterfall curls, and her eyes had a fine dusting of silver shimmer on them.
He almost dropped his cola. And his jaw.
"Wow, Babs you look beautiful!" Dick exclaimed without thinking. "I-er-I mean-you look good." The red head smirked.
"Well, that suit looks great on you." She smiled. The weird thing was, she didn't even have to tilt her head the smallest bit down. Dick was her height now, and he showed no sign of stopping growth.
"Thanks." He rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh, hey, I love this song! Come on!" He grabbed Barbara's hand and pulled her onto the dance floor.
As they jumped around, the two odd ones out at an otherwise respectable and civilized party, they kept accidentally bumping hands, then blushing, then looking away, then looking again."How are you still wearing heels?" Dick yelled over the music.
"My volunteer work gives me a lot of practice." Barbara replied.
"Come on, I wanna show you something." He grabbed her hand and led her to the highest balcony on the Manor, and started climbing into the roof. He offered his hand to her, but all he got was a pair of heels, and Barbara pulled herself up."It's so beautiful." She whispered, gazing at the sparkling lights of Gotham.
"You sure are..." Dick sighed, then realized what he said. "I...I was...um..." He stuttered.
"You're not too bad yourself, Grayson." Barbara blushed. Dick took her hand and held her waist. "What're you doing?"
"Dancing." He said bluntly. Barbara put her hands around his neck."Hold me close and hold me fast. The magic spell you cast, this is la vie en rose." The band started playing La Vie En Rose. "When you kiss me, heaven sighs, and though I close my eyes, I see la vie en rose." Barbara pecks Dick's cheek, making them both blush the color of her hair. "When you press me to your heart, I'm in a world apart. She rested her head on Dick's chest. "And when you speak, angels, sing from above. Everyday words seem, To turn into love songs."
"Look, the fireworks are starting." Dick pointed to the colorful bursts in the sky.
"You know, this is the first New Year's Eve we've spent together just as Babs and Dick. Not as BG and Robin, trying to stop the Joker, or Penguin, or someone." Barbara said softly. He could feel her strawberry scented breath on his neck.
"Um, Babs?" Dick asked. "You know you're my best friend, right?"
"Obviously, Boy Wonder." She smirked.
"And I don't want anything to ruin that." He continued. "So...I...um.." Dick had suddenly lost all courage to tell Barbara how he felt. And being his best friend, she picked up on it.
"Ten seconds!" She cried excitedly. If he liked her, he would make his move.

1.Dick cupped Barbara's cheek in on hand, and put the other on the back of her head.
"Babs, I think I like you. As in, like like you." He whispered.
"Ditto, Grayson."
They began doing some weird version of the waltz on the roof, and the narrator sighed in happiness, watching the two young souls finally accept their feelings for each other.
"Give your heart and soul to me, And life will always be...La vie en rose!"
