Call Me Maybe?

Me and Joey walked that short walk from my table to his but in that time I feel like we got so close. Not many words were exchanged but a feeling, an understanding, was. When we reached Joey's table he quickly moved his things aside to make room for me to sit and clumsily dropped a few items. He kept his cool and maintained himself long enough to say "Guys, this is Sammi. Sammi, these are the guys. This is Max, Cole, and Travis." He said as he pointed to each of them individually. All three of the boys had blonde hair though cut at different lengths. If I had to guess I would say Max's was the longest and Cole's the shortest but Travis had his hair tucked away in a hat so it was hard to tell. Travis also seemed to be the tallest of the group. They were all quite attractive if I do say so myself which, was very new to me. Sitting with them was kind of nerve racking let alone going to the same school! All I could think was 'don't blow it this time. Keep your answers honest and short.' This could be a make or break moment in my new life...I had to be careful.

The boys responses varried from "Hey." "What's up?" and " Yo." So I replied simply by saying "Hey. Thanks for letting me sit with you guys." As I sat down at the seat Joey cleared for me. "No problem." said Cole. He seemed to be like the alpha even though they all seemed fairly equal to eachother. "Yeah," began Travis as he streatched out the word and continued by saying, "how could we not invite the funny yet pretty new girl to sit with us? Especially with Joey here all googly-eyed." He nudged Joey a bit in the shoulder as he teased him and I blushed at the compliment. I'm not used to that kind of thing and having cute guys tell you that you're pretty well, that's not even really possible to me. I could tell they were harping hard on Joey and he was blushing bad. I couldn't believe that someone as cute as him could possibly have a crush on me. It seemed so unrealistic.

We went on talking and laughing for the rest of lunch. The group of boys all seemed really cool and by the end of the period I had considered them all to he friends. The bell rang and we all began to part ways when Max turned back and yelled, "See you guys tomorrow!" Travis and Cole began to walk to the right and called back at us that we would 'totally' see eachother tomorrow and then, it was me and Joey. "Uh...So where's your next class?" He asked in an awkward way offering to walk me when I told him it was Science. "I could totally walk you there...Y'know, if you wanted. I mean, I'm actually going the same way so it wouldn't be any trouble. Not that if it were trouble I wouldn't walk you cuz...I totally still would y'know and-" Cutting him off I said "Joey! I'd love for you to show me the way. As long as it's on your way y'know?" I said that last part to tease him a little hoping he would laugh a bit and, he did. So we walked to Science, my least favorite subject, and got to know eachother a bit better. Joey was really nice. He was the drummer in their band which was called Emily's Army in honor of Cole and Max's cousin. He told me that his father was a musician and he inspired him. He told me how he really wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps and how sometimes living up to that could be hard. I told him he had to create his own future even if he was inspired by his dad. I also told him that I sang and played the guitar but always wanted to play the drums. At that point we were just about there and Joey said, "Well y'know...I could teach you if you wanted? Maybe we could hangout like once a week or something and I could teach you something new each time. It could be a lot of fun y'know." He sounded nervous but excited at the same time. I told him I would love that and that I thought it was a great idea. By the time we had arrived at my class door Joey's excitement, as well as mine, had died down at the realization that we would have to leave eachother. "I guess I gotta go." I said in a slower voice but then, turning around quickly, I said "Wait! Gimme your arm." Joey stuck out his arm and rolled up the sleeve of his hoodie while I pulled a sharpie out of my pocket. '(708) 443-2791' I wrote very big and clear on his arm. "My number," I said, "Y'know for those drum lessons and stuff." Joey looked down at his arm and smiled. Then he said "See you later?" "Totally." I replied and as he turned to walk away I could see his smile fade. "Hey Joey!" I yelled down the hall. He turned back and looked at me just long enough for me to say "Call me maybe?" I said it in the goofiest manner ever and we both laughed as we departed ways. I walked into Science with a whole new fear on my mind though. Another new class with no one I knew but I'd been going through that all day. Now, I was thinking about Joey and if he really would call me.
