A Break in the Silence

Everybody thought she was mute. She was always silent and didn't speak. She didn't answer your questions if they weren't answerable by yes or no or if otherwise, she would give a small smile to tell you that she was doing fine.

But one day, she saw a girl being pushed around by a group of boys in the hallway, being catcalled and teased.

And what she says, everybody hears.

"STOP."

And they do.

They were shocked at first not only because of her beautiful, serene voice and the power that was held in it, but because for the first time they heard her speak, it wasn't for herself, for her vanity, or for her own safety. It was for a person who needed it more.
