What if Johnny didn't kill Bob?

Three weeks earlier...

Soda's POV

The doctor told us that Ponyboy would make it, but his body needed time to heal. They couldn't say when he would wake up they just said he would at some point. The doctors said they would keep Ponyboy in the hospital until he showed signs of waking up.

Darry and me went home after the second day of waiting in the hospital. I finally got in a good eight hours of sleep and Darry went back to work in the morning. Soda told me to stay home for a couple days.

Today is the third day Ponyboy has been in the hospital and it kills me to seem him like that. Everyone in the gang seems to be upset. Especially Johnny. Dally has been trying to cheer him up but it hasn't been working very well.

"Soda you ready to go?" Two-bit asked me. I was currently sitting on the couch watching t.v. Two-bit and I were going to go visit Pony at the hospital. I was bringing with me a book I had bought at the hospital gift shop; Gone With the Wind. When I saw it I knew Ponyboy would love it.

"Yeah I'm ready." I reply.

Johnny's POV

Every since Pony's been in the hospital I've been staying in Dal's room. He told me that I need a friend. I told him that Pony was my friend and that I could stay at the hospital with him. Dally eventually forced me to stay at Buck's place. I still visit Ponyboy everyday though.

"Hey Dally?" Dally was laying in bed his back to me. He didn't respond after a couple minutes.

"Dal!" I push him a little.

"Johnny man what is it?" Dally mumbled turning over.

"Do you think Ponyboy is my fault?" I ask him. "I could have done something to stop the socs. I feel like I should have done something to stop the socs."

Dally gives me this concerned look that I've never seen him have. He sat up and stared right into my eyes. My gaze drifted to the door across the room.

"It's not your fault Johnny." He sighs and lays back down. "Don't put him getting hurt on yourself."

I stayed silent not knowing what to say back. Could Dally be right? It's not like Ponyboy died or anything. I can't help but keep feeling responsible for Pony. God I usually go to Pone with these type of thoughts. I miss Ponyboy.

I've been meaning to update for awhile. It's kinda short. It was really hard for me to finish this update but I'll try to get the next one out soon.
