Chp.3 Castle

Xalanth flew until we came across a giant castle.
Wow!
I'm glad you like it mate.
This is a beautiful castle, white bricks and red roofs, it's protected from all side by mountains. Flying is the only way to get here.
Xalanth lands in a courtyard and quickly shifts back to his human form

After I shifted I decided I better get my mate cleaned up, she looks like she's never seen a bath. Probably hasn't knowing those terrible wolves!
Dragons have never gotten along with wolves. The great Phoenix, the bird of fire, created everything from the smallest grain of sand to the largest dragon. The Phoenix is also credited with making the wolves and dragons hate each other. I'm sure many years ago it was not lien this, but after murders, wars, and many other things; dragons and wolves don't get along.
I was surprised to find my mate, and to think she's actually a wolf.
I still can't accept that fact, but she seems different than most wolves. She was probably a slave or something, I can tell by all the scars and bruises. She doesn't trust easily either, any time a dragon comes to greet us she freezes out of fear.
"Mate? What is your name?"
"The alpha King always called me Songbird like my mother." I see her grow sad at that thought. I know something terrible happened to her mother, but I don't want to push her. She'll tell me when she ready."
"But my mother called me Melody when we were alone in our room. You're not suppose to name children born in the manor unless you have the alpha king's permission."
"You were born a manor?" They don't have freaking hospitals in wolf territory?
"Yes. After my father died, my mother soon found out she was pregnant with me, she then as sent to work for the alpha King. The other servants tries to give her big clothing as she was pregnant, trying to hide me. She was going to have me hide in a basket and have me escape out the manor. Once you work for the alpha King, you can't ever leave. One day when I was almost born, the alpha King found out and new that he was going to have two entertainers instead of one. Is it like that here?" She asked nervous.
"Of course not! We have people who work in the castle, but they're free to leave whenever and return home to their families every evening. I don't know what you lived through with the wolves, but I can assure you we dragons are very different from them."
"So you don't have harems and things like that?"
I almost gag, to think my mate actually believes I'd sleep with other women.
If I even kiss another woman and risk losing her, I'd die.
"Of course not. You're my mate."
"What is a mate exactly."
"In simple terms, you're one true love. You complete one another and have children-"
"Can you have multiple mates? The alpha King had many woman carrying his children."
"It's usually one person. Ah! Here we are inside is a bath ready for you. Once you're done mind link me and I'll come get you."
"Mind link?"
"When we talk telepathically. It's what mates do."
"Oh!"
I open the door for her and she enters the washroom.
"I'll see you soon, Xalanth."
I love hearing her say my name, "I'll se you soon too, Melody Songbird."
I close the door for her.
My poor mate, she must've lived her whole life in a dungeon, she's probably one of the alpha kings mistress' kid. But that name: Songbird. That's a brand of some kind. I need to research this.
I head to my study to research, suddenly my office door bursts open.
"Is it true?" Ike my best friend/ cousin says as he enters my study.
"Knocking is still something I'd like you to leant before you graduate."
"I did graduate thank you. Same as you cous."
"How?"
"Well I tried hard, not really thou, never showed up-"
"Not that! How are we even related?"
"Got me. I know you're jealous my good looks."
"Sure." I laugh.
"So is it true?"
"No I'm not jealous-"
"No not that. Did you actually bring a wolf on our territory?! What'd she do? Was she a spy? Are you buying info about the wolf kingdom from her? Is she really a dragon with just wolf sent?"
"Where did you hear about Melody?!"
"It's all over the kingdom, everyone is coming up with stories about it. You wanna here mine, you and this girl are actually plotting to destroy the world-"
Before Ike can finish I'm already out the door.
If word got out to everyone in the kingdom that also means it got out to two dragons that didn't need to know about this yet.
I hear a scream come from the washroom where Melody was at!
Oh no! Melody just stay calm I'm coming!
