Chapter 14

We finally made it back. We've been here for about a day or so. Home sweet home. We've put everything back in their place and and made the area somewhat nicer.

We also made a temporary spot for Muffin and her pups who have yet to be named.

Muffin has a food name, so I think the pups should have a food name too. Maybe....Cupcake and Pancake!

Maybe.

Zylen and I have also continued work on our tiny house. We started a bit yesterday after getting some more wood while Hunter and Denton went to go catch some fish and argue from what it sounded like.

But today Denton volunteered to help me with building. Zylen and Hunter were going to go get some wood and then find some more food because food runs out fast.

It's going to run out faster now that we have more to feed. I'm a bit worried that we might run out soon so I want to get as much food as we can just to be safe.

After all, I don't plan on having anyone die!

"Hey, you ready to start?" I heard Denton ask.

"Yeah, let's start." I said grabbing some things that we would need.

Zylen and Hunter were out getting some wood while Denton and I were carving a hole on each end of the log making small talk as well.

Eventually, we modified all of the logs we needed to and got to work on finishing the house. It was about mid-day it looked like.

"Hey Mia, I've been thinking about something..." Denton said hesitantly.

"Hm? What is it?" I asked.

"Do...you think we're gonna ever get off this place?" he asked.

I stopped hanging up a log and thought about it for a minute. After I finally came up with an answer I continued to work.

"Well, honestly, I don't really know. For me, it wouldn't really matter that much because it's not like I really have anyone at home that would worry about me or even wait for me to return. I mean, I have a friend back home but she has her other friends and she never paid much attention to me anyways even when I was back home. So, I doubt she even notices I'm gone or even remembers that I left!" I said managing a smile.

It made me feel a little sad inside though. Knowing that if I came back it wouldn't matter because no one's there.

"What about your family? Wouldn't they be worried?" Denton asked.

I chuckled.

"My brother is dead, my parents are divorced, my mom hasn't contacted me since she left me in the seventh grade so I don't know what she's doing or even where she is, and my dad I guess is with a girl 20 years younger than him with a brand new family. Any cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or anything else either never cared to talk to me or I've never met." I explained.

"That sounds harsh." he said.

"It gets me upset sometimes but, I'm used to it. So it doesn't really matter to me." I said continuing to work.

We were left in silence for a bit.

"Do you want to go back?" I asked him, breaking the silence.

"A bit yeah. I have lots of people back home that I really miss. But I wouldn't mind it if we never even got off this shithole. I guess I've grown accustomed to this place. There's always something to do. Even if it was the same thing that was done the day before, I don't mind doing it again. Besides, there's you." he said.

I blushed a bit when he said that last part.

"Y-yeah, and there's a-also Hunter, Zylen, Muffin and her pups....yeah lots of stuff here." I said.

"Oh, yeah, that too." Denton said with a laugh.

We finished all of the walls for the house and only had to add a roof and the finishing touches.

I got out of the almost completed house and stepped back to admire what we completed so far. It was small, but big enough for all of us, including the pups, as well as an area I've already planned out for some of our stuff.

I smiled as I got excited about doing the finishing touches tomorrow. The hard work was starting to pay off.

"Beautiful." he said smiling.

"Hehe, yeah!" I said.

I felt him put his arm around my waist and pull me closer to him.

"I really wouldn't mind if we never even made it off this place." Denton said.

After a bit, Hunter and Zylen came back. We cooked some fish over the fire that Zylen set up since it burned out. We also have some of the fish to Muffin while the pups fed off of her.

The rest of the day was spent by all of us getting fish, which we had very little luck with. I wasn't too worried about it, but I can't help but wanting to feel prepared.

It's probably just me being a little bit too worrisome though.

We also got the rest of the materials to finish the house tomorrow. We were all going to work on it this time!

It'll be something that we can all be proud of when it's finished.

Honestly, I guess I really don't mind if we never left this shithole as Denton called it.

It's home.
