I waited on a park bench. A cool breeze whistled through the leaves of the tall oak tree above me. The birds that nested on the branches of the trees sang as the flew out into the bright blue sky. Families of patients sat nervously at the picnic tables under the shade of the oak tree. I noticed a path that led down to a pond nearby and followed it. It was a silent walk down through the garden under the arches of Wisteria. Bees flew by in the search of their home dragonflies paused their trips on a lily pad floating on the water top. There were 3 large Coi fish in the water, each showing their own distinct pattern. Brown, white, good, and orange. So different but yet still the same. The tranquility of the garden sidetracked to me and for a moment I had forgotten the place up the path that held my mom in a room attached to liquid and fluids. I felt my phone buzz in my back pocket. I reluctantly answered the call.
"Hey where are you? I thought I was meeting you in the front of the hospital?"
"Oh.. Yeah sorry I'll be right there."
I hung up the call. I took one last look at the alluring pond and went up the path.
