When I got to the top of the path I saw Jc helping a little boy get his ball from out of the tree. The boy sat on top of Jc's shoulders reaching for the blue and red ball from out between the twisted branches."You got it?" Jc asked.
"Yeah! Thank you Mr." The little boy replied with a smile.
"No problem little man. Hey wheres your parents?"
"My aunties inside with the doctors. She said my mommy isn't feeling well."
I walked up next to Jc and the little boy and said, "Yeah, my mommy isn't feeling well either."
Jc looked at me with concern on his face.
"Its going to be okay," he said as he touched his small hand to my shoulder. "At least that's what my auntie told me." The little boy smiled as he explained. He then took his ball and kicked it. Before he could run off to retrieve the ball again, a man from the picnic table called out.
"Henry!"
"That's my uncle. Well, I gotta go now. Bye!"
"Be safe little guy." said Jc as Henry ran towards his uncle. I waved and smiled.
"Shall we be going?" Jc asked and I nodded.
Jc led the way to the car with me a few steps behind pondering the idea of being happy and having my mom in the hospital. It seemed so easy for the boy to just play around, smiling and enjoying himself even though he knew his mother was sick. He had his aunt and uncle around. Assuring his safety. who do i have?
The sound of Jc unlocking his car woke me from my wondering mind.
I have you.
