Three months later:
Maura's Point Of View:I woke up at eight o'clock. I got out of bed and went to Jacob's room. He was still sound asleep. I walked into the kitchen and made a cup of coffee. As I poured the coffee into two mugs, I felt skinny arms wrapped around my waist. I jumped a little.
"Jane you scared me!" I said
"Sorry." She kissed my cheek and took her cup of coffee.
"I want to get a run in this morning. You gonna come?" Jane asked.
"I would love to, but Jacob is still sleeping." I said as I put my cup in the sink.
"I can wait."
"No, you go." I insisted
"Okay I'll be fast." She said as she pecked my lips and headed out the door.I was doing the dishes, when I heard Jacob cry over the baby monitor. I dried my hands, then headed into my son's room. When I walked into my son's room, he was standing in his crib, holding onto the railing. He held his arms out screaming and crying.
"It's okay, shh mommy's here, mommy's here." I said as I picked up my son. He wrapped arms around my neck and and buried his head in neck.
"Shhh" I said as I rubbed soothing circles on my crying son's back. When he finally settled down, I carried him into the kitchen. I put him in his high chair, and pulled it next to the bar stool. I made him some oat meal and fed him. After he finished his oat meal, I wiped his mouth and put his bowl in the sink. Right when I was about to give Jacob a bath, there was a knock on the front door.
"Jane did you forget your key again?" I said. I opened the door and saw the worst mistake standing in front of me, Dennis. I took a step back, and tightened my grip around Jacob.
"What are you doing here?" I asked angry and scared all at the same time.
"I'm here for you. Have you changed your mind? Do you miss me?" He asked giving me a grin as he pushed passed me into my house.
"Jane will be here any minute." I warned my abusive ex.
"Maura, I miss you. I've changed. I got help. I learned from my actions. Please Maura, give me a second chance." He begged me. I backed towards the counter where my phone was.
I had Jane on speed dial, so I just pressed 2. I held the phone behind my back so Dennis didn't know I was calling Jane. All of the sudden Dennis grabbed Jacob out of my grip.Jane's Point Of View:
I was running back home, when my phone rang. I looked at the collar ID and it was Maura.
"What's up Maur?" I asked
"Give me back my son, Dennis!" I heard Maura yell over the phone.
"Hi Jacob, did you miss daddy?" Dennis asked ignoring me.
"You are not his father!" Maura screamed, and Jacob started crying.
"Give him to me, and leave." Maura said calmly
"Maura please. I love you." He begged.Maura's Point Of View:
Dennis ran down the hall with Jacob. I dropped my phone and chased after him. He quickly ran into Jacob's room and locked them in. I pounded on the door repeatedly.
"Open this door!" I screamed on the verge of tears. I ran back into the kitchen and grabbed my phone.
"Jane, come back please! Dennis is here and he took Jacob!" I said crying
"Maura I'm on my way. Where did he take Jacob?" She asked
"He locked him and Jacob in Jacob's room. Jane please hurry!" I screamed and hung up. I ran back to Jacob's room and twisted the door knob even though it was no use. I banged on the door repeatedly.
"Dennis open the door!" I just heard Jacob screaming and Dennis talking in a baby voice. I couldn't make out what he was saying over Jacob's screaming. Within five minutes Jane came bursting though the front door.
"Maura!" She called. I ran to her and she pulled me into a hug.She quickly ran past me and ran to Jacob's room.
"Dennis I'll give you to the count of five or I will break down this god damn door.
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5!" She counted. On the fifth count, the door opened. Dennis opened the door with Jacob on his hip.
"Give me the baby!" Jane yelled
"Don't yell in front of my son." Dennis said calmly.
"He is not your son!" Jane screamed
"Jane, leave me and my family alone." He said
"This is not your family. You lost that respect the first time you laid a hand in Maura!" She screamed
"You know what, fuck you all!" He yelled as he handed me Jacob. I grabbed Jacob and ran down the hall into my room. I closed the door and locked it. All I heard was Jane screaming and the sound of things being knocked over and bounding against the wall. Then it all went silent.I heard clomping coming closer and closer to the door.
"Maur, he's gone." Jane said as she knocked on the door. I picked up Jacob and unlocked the door. Jane rushed in and closer the door behind her. I sat on the bed and put Jacob on my lap and Jane pulled us into a hug.
"It's okay Maura, he's gone. He's never coming back. Did he hurt Jacob?" She asked
"No he's okay."
"What happened?"
"I don't know. I was going to give Jacob a bath, then there was a knock on the door. I thought you left your key so I opened the door without looking through the window. Then he pushed passed me and grabbed Jacob out of my arms. I'm so stupid." I said feeling the tears forming.
"Hey, listen. You are not stupid. This wasn't your fault, okay?" She asked and I just nodded my head. I laid my head on my Jane's shoulder. Then we heard Jacob's cute little sneeze.
"Bless you." We both said in a baby voice. We all laid down in bed and took a nap. Jacob cuddled in between me and Jane, and me Jane holding hands, our arms carefully lying on top of Jacob's back.
