a country maid was walking along the path with a can of milk balanced on her head, when she fell into the following train of thought. "when I sell this milk, I'll use the money to increase my stock of eggs to 300, and these eggs will produce at least 250 chickens.
"the chickens will be fit to take to the market just at the time when poultry is rare, so that by the eve of the new year I will have enough money to purchase a new gown. I will purchase a green dress, green compliments my complexion best, and green it shall be. in this dress I will go to the fair, where all the young fellows will long to have me for a partner, but no! I shall refuse every one of them, and with a disdainful toss I shall turn away from them."
mesmerized with this idea, she could not stop herself from acting out the vision with her head- when down came the can of milk! and all her imaginary happiness vanished in a moment.
